MG3 Booster Cone

Post by czerka »

I just got a new MG3 flash hider/booster set for my 42. The booster hole diameter looks to be exactly the same size as the barrel. I was wondering if I needed to drill out the hole to a larger size and if so what size should I start with?

What size is the hole now? In mm please.

10.5 to 11mm is normal but before you drill lets check it out. John from German manuals normally helps out on this one.

What are you calling the "booster"? An MG42 flash hider has a nozzle inside it, and inside that is the muzzle sleeve.

If you're talking about the cup shaped sleeve that goes over top of the barrel muzzle, leave it alone. It doesn't get drilled, and they don't come in different sizes.

Rocker is talking about the nozzle, but there isn't a nozzle in the MG3 setup that I know of.

Why would you want to change the hole, doesn't it work right or something?

There's John, Glad to see him on this one.
What John just said is true, forgot about the mg3 statement.

The barrel bearing hole measures around 9mm the flash hider hole is about 10mm. The site I bought them from stated that they need to be drilled to MG42 specs. There is adequate clearance so I was not clear on the exact reason for the drilling, thanks.

The MG3 barrel bearing could be drilled out a bit if you're going to try to shoot 8mm through it, just to give it a little extra clearance for the slightly larger bullet, but that's all I've ever known to be done to it. If you're shooting .308, that's what it's made for and it doesn't need modified. :)

There is plenty of clearance for 8mm just wanted to be sure that it would not produce too much back pressure, thanks.
