Difference in 42s feed trays ????

Hi gang.
Why has one of these feed trays have a " CUT OUT "
Which one would best fit an early Mg42 ... 1943 model.

Easier to cut and fold up metal to make the belt catcher nub, rather than making another part to weld onto the tray. Id assume the welded part one for earlier guns, but dont quote me as im far from expert on them.
