Question on M53 parts kit receivers

Post by tony »

What happened to the rest of the receiver pieces????

I was chatting with my Dad today (BTW happy Fathers Day to all Dads) about kit building and guns in general. He asked me an inquiring question...."Why do the M53 kits only come with the front receiver shell if the German ones came with all the scrap pieces?"

I had no definate answer.
So, my question is , why?

Was it a BATFE ruling on these imports to be sold without the other scrap pieces?
Or is the original importer holding on to the pieces to be sold at a later date?
Or did the importer purposly keep the scrap pieces so it would be harder to build, so people would be more apt to buy their semi?

Anyone have any incite to this elusive question?

Thanks for the great site!

Wasn't Century the importer of M53? And aren't they selling a less than $3,000 M53 semi auto?

That is why C maybe correct. Or it could have been BATF changing the rules.

I find it hard to believe these bits went for so much, especially in that shape! ---bil

those bits of metal are the parts that BRP sent out around 3 years ago for $20 for a 3/4 peice set. I bought 2 of them at the time, Never knowing what I would receive, and BRP even warned me, "you can't make a receiver out of these".... :? But I bought them anyway, and as it turned out, they sent me two cam sections, 2 long pieces of the rear receiver shell, and 3 short pieces of the belt feed tray section. As I used both of the cam sections for my own builds, not quite the worthless investment that I thought at the time...
