Vote Mitt Romney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by URAR1004 »

Over the weekend Mitt Romney won the primary in Maine. Didn’t hear? Well, it wasn’t just because of the Super Bowl. Many would have us believe that the
Republican nomination is all but wrapped up for John McCain. Not so, a poll this morning shows Romney leading by 8 points in California. Haven’t heard?
There’s a reason why. I have given a lot of thought to our current election process and want to share a bit of my feelings with you in hopes that it will
stir you to action. I'm definately putting myself out there a bit and my hope is that none take offense. Just felt like I had to share. Here goes:

First, some disclaimers:

1) The objective of this email is to persuade Republican voters to choose wisely in casting their vote on “Super Tuesday;” If you don’t want McCain
your only vote is Romney – I’ll explain.

2) If you are currently registered as a Democrat you won’t be able to vote Republican on Tuesday (unless you are registered as an
Independent). Still, you may want to read this email. I don’t have time now to share all my feelings on why I don’t think you should vote for
either of the Democrats running. Suffice it to say, both candidates – Clinton and Obama – will try to take the country in the same direction; toward a
more European or “Socialist” form of government. If you’d like our “Democratic-Republic” to be replaced with that model (which has never achieved the greatness that ours has), either will make a fine
socialist leader.

3) My target audience is to those who are Republicans who can vote on Tuesday or IN ANY of the other upcoming primaries - who are vacillating
between Romney and Huckabee.

Here’s my plea: The Republican’s only have two viable candidates left, Romney and McCain. I know Huckabee (and Paul) is still on the ballot, and
that’s why I’m writing. If you are considering a vote for Huckabee, I understand and appreciate why; he is a good man, has good values, and promotes good conservative policies. However, he cannot win the
Primary. It is impossible. If you vote for him, you are voting for McCain.

Now, as for McCain, I have lived in Arizona for that past 4 years. McCain is one of our senators. He gets re-elected because no other viable Republicans run against him and he is a better option than the Democrats who do. We have a terrible education problem here. Illegal immigration has never been
impeded. I think he’s a hardworking guy. I appreciate his position on the war and the service he has rendered our country. But if you’re considering Huckabee then you must feel it would be a disaster to end up with McCain. They couldn’t be more different.

On the other hand, Romney is very similar to Huckabee, although more practical and just as conservative (in my opinion). He’s succeeded in
every endeavor his taken on, both in the private and public sector. He is the only “electable” challenger to McCain. Again, if you vote for Huckabee because you like him, you’ll be voting for McCain. It doesn’t seem right, but that’s how it is.

In1996 I got caught up with the Ross Perot campaign. Remember, he was running as an Independent verse Clinton and Bush senior. That year he garnered 20% of the popular vote; Bush senior about 39%, and
Clinton about 41%. Nearly 60% of the country voted for a President other than Clinton. I remember trying to convince my parents to vote Perot then,
instead of Bush. Instead of electing Perot, or Bush – most people’s first or second option - we elected Clinton. The rest is history.

In summary, if we (Conservatives who love the form of government the Constitution prescribes) are going to beat either of the Democrat nominees, we need a strong Conservative representative to contrast the
Left Wing candidates the Democrats will nominate. That is not McCain.

It is either Romney or Huckabee, and a vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain. If McCain gets the nomination, the Democratic Party has essentially
already won – they will have two Democrat nominees one on the extreme left (Clinton or Obama) and one on the more moderate Left (McCain). That is
precisely why all you here in the media is how big of a lead McCain has. In REALITY, McCain has 97 delagates, Romney has 92. McCain has 2 wins in the
primary’s, Romney has 4 (and if you add in Iowa – where Huckabee won – Romney/Huckabee have 5!). America clearly wants a more conservative candidate.

In order for this to happen, VOTE ROMNEY!

This whole primary thing frustrates me to no end. Since my states primary hasnt happened yet, all I can do is sit and watch while McAmnesty takes the lead. Regardless of what happens, I will be casting my vote for Romney. Even if McShame is the nominee, I will write in Romney's name. Johnnie has spent the last 7 years acting more like a democrat and votes with them more often than not.

Screw Mitt Romney. He wants my guns, and he wants the meaningless "ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN" reinstated. I don't care WHO wins, because there IS NO CONSERVATIVE choice left now that Fre'd gone. Ron Paul is a foreign affairs fiasco in the making. I'm writing in FRED THOMPSON on the ballot. So we get 4 years of Democrat controlled congress and presidency (even if John McAmnesty is Pres), after a few years of socialist control and crap, we can vot the whole lot of them out of office next term. Let'em do their worst. I'm too pissed at the Republicans for selling us out to even think of voting for one right now.

Hey URAR1004

I was a foot soldier for Perot in 1992 when he garnered nearly 19% of the popular vote (not 1996 as you stated when he did run, but received much less as Clinton destroyed Bob Dole in detail). Perot was great because unlike the current pretenders to the throne, Perot as with Teddy Roosevelt, actually cared about the middle class and prophetically warned of the rape of this country’s manufacturing base, which was carried out effusively by mainly Republicans and a minority of Democrats (especially that brigand Clinton). Those corporatist swine have screwed us good. Remember both parties have their hands dirty with Gun Control/ import restrictions put in place by Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton, and Bush 43 who in September of 2004 said he would re-knew the assault weapons ban if Congress brought it to his desk (you can google it). Or that pile of excrement Mitt Romney, who said on the NBC Sunday morning show “Meet The Press” with Tim Russert, that he would re-knew the “assault weapons ban.” Dave down at Interordnance said it best “we have no friends in Washington.” To the independents good for you for keeping the parties guessing, for those of us that feel compelled to align to a party if we do not demand more, we will never get more. I voted for Ron Paul notwithstanding his mentally deficient view on not supporting the medical panacea of embryonic stem cells, or writing in Fred was a good idea if you like him, but as far as gun rights, our party will not see us unless we make some noise instead of falling in line. Mitt is an ass clown.

It is mighty ironic that after nearly 13 months of a crowded Democratic and Republican field, millions of dollars raised and spent, along with numerous debates, and still the presumptive front runners of 18 months ago have become again the current front runners, that being Hillary and McCain.

Maybe, just maybe, the homebuilding will be overlooked in the next bill, but the days of $300 Aks and $300 Mac-10 copies are numbered.

For the record URAR1004 I did not mean to sound like a blow hard, I just get so irate with the choices we are stuck with. In a population of 303 million, too often we end up voting for a person we dislike the least because we do not have real choices. Anyway I can see that I also have a spelling problem from my last post, as “renew” is not “re-knew”???? I will chalk that up to fatigue.

Romney with his gun restrictions in Mass, would have brought that attitude and behavour to the White House; How many anti-gun bills did he happily sign as govenor?

Huckabee has a good pro-gun record, but he has lost his traction, but yet may wind up as VP candidate with McCain.

McCain in 1993, voted against the freekin Brady Bill, and then voted against the nuttie Assault/wpn-Magazine ban Bill....He was there for us in 2003, when the schummers, kennedys and kerrys tried desperately to renew that hideous b.s. emotional tripe ban again.......Sure McCain ,around 1997 was blabbing about 'gun-show loop-hole', and about 3-4 years ago was squawking about gun-locks; but what he actually did in the senate about our 2nd Amendment holds water with me......and yes, he is all over the board about other issues, but it's GUNS that I care heart and soul about!!!!!

The two hideous gun hating , 2nd amendment despising liberal freeks on the other side will stop at nothing to dis-arm us....Notice there is no words about gun-control and such during this primary.....By these two dems saying they are 'for the Second Amendment' puts all discussion to rest with the electorate, especially the registered democrate who is a hunter or owns a gun or two, and has a short memory. The libs are smart.

There is still time till november, and maybe McCain will appeal to us gun owners, and re-assure us that we have nothing to worry about if he gets put in the Oval Office. (maybe Huckabee at his side)...*****

Hey Junglewalk,

Great presentation of the facts, I was remiss on McCain’s good work regarding the 2nd Amendment and he supports stem cell research (which is paramount for me), therefore he now has my support. I do not think Ron Paul can pull it off at this point.

Mr.Prussia.USA..> I'll listen to anyone who is on 'us' gunowners side, then watch what they do, when it comes to our precious 'right' to be an armed citizen in our great country.

I'm approaching 60 yrs/old, and I am terrified with what we have coming in this election in November.......I'm trying to figure it out, like all the guys on this great forum....I have spent over 30 years, collecting basically a german WWII rifle and NFA gun collection, plus a nice across the board pistol collection, and don't want to find myself, sometime next year, an instant criminal, because a gun hating Lib is in the oval office, and begins to push for new fire-arms bans and restrictions.

If we recall, in the House is a new Assault/wpn-Magazine ban Bill, (HR-1022), just waiting to be unleashed on the floor of the House. The Libs in the Senate, are waiting to get their hands on that Bill, when the House is done, to fill it up with their awful anti-gun venom for us law-abiding gun owners like you and I. (Mean while Illegal/questionable Aliens are approved to buy firearms by ATF; see my write-up in this section)

I believe the big gun-defending organizations, like NRA, GOA, etc, need to line up behind McCain pretty soon, and alert sleeping gunowners out there, as to what the other side will bring to firearms ownership.
(just my opinion- we all have one) :)

I'm glad you brougth this up;...Read below from a Gun-owner's web-site in Massachusetts;..They seem to think Romney made large steps in the way of easing restrictions on Gun Ownership in the state...?....

Is this B.S. or truth???//

Subject: Romney record on guns...

The Romney Record

A Look at Governor Mitt Romney's Record as Governor of Massachusetts as it Relates to the Gun Owners and Sportsmen of Our State

Prepared by: Gun Owners’ Action League (GOAL) - February 2007

General Comments

In the first months of the Romney administration the Governor isolated himself to all but a handful of close advisors most of whom came from the business community. This caused the Governor to make some rather serious political missteps that could have been avoided through better communications. However, relations dramatically improved and in the end, GOAL had more access to this administration than any other since the days of Governor Ed King in 1979.

The two major events that eventually led to this improved relationship were the raid on the Inland Fisheries & Game Fund in 2003 and a botched press conference/bill signing in 2004. Both situations are outlined in this report.

While at the time these events greatly angered GOAL members, the result was much improved access to the Governor’s office and his staff. During the following years, senior level Romney staffers met on a monthly basis with GOAL’s Executive Director to discuss and work on any issues relevant to GOAL’s members. This should not be taken as an indication that GOAL “controlled” the corner office, but rather that a very good working relationship was developed that benefited both parties.

Legislation: During the Romney Administration, no anti-second amendment or anti-sportsmen legislation made its way to the Governor’s desk.

Governor Romney did sign five pro-second amendment/pro-sportsmen bills into law. His administration also worked with Gun Owners’ Action League and the Democratic leadership of the Massachusetts House and Senate to remove any anti-second amendment language from the Gang Violence bill passed in 2006. A summary of this legislation follows.

Budgetary: In the Governor’s first year, he made a political error when he submitted a budget that did away with the Inland Fisheries & Game Fund. (More of this is explained below.) Fortunately, after this matter was resolved, GOAL was able to establish better communications with the Governor’s office. In working with the legislature and the Governor we were able to restore the Fund and increase the money released from it to better manage the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. Over the next three years, GOAL was also successful in getting some “capital revenue” released to acquire land for the Division.

Regulations: During his administration, the Executive Office of Public Safety passed a new regulation providing free replacement of firearm licenses to those who had them stolen or lost. (A resident license fee in Massachusetts at that time was $100 every 6 years.) Prior to this new regulation a citizen would have to repeat the entire application process and pay the whole fee to acquire a replacement license.

Policy: His administration conducted a review of the state’s Environmental Police agency (Game Wardens). One major concern was to keep in place the hiring requirement that officers needed to have some environmental education background not strictly law enforcement. This was a policy that GOAL worked to support.

Fees: In 2003 Governor Romney filed budgetary language to raise firearm license fees from $25 to $75. That year the legislature actually raised them to $100 in the General Appropriations bill (Section 34 of Chapter 140 of the Acts of 2003). At that time a resident license was good for 4 years. In 2004 a law was passed increasing the license term to 6 years.

In 2005, Governor Romney waived the administrative fees for the Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Fund. The state currently charges these fees that were as much as 36% a year. Gun Owners’ Action League worked with environmental organizations to urge the Governor to temporarily waive the fees until permanent legislation could be passed to do away with the fees all together.

Appointments: One of the agencies that GOAL watches very closely is the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. This agency is run by a strong seven-person board. The appointments to this board are spread out over several years so that drastic changes cannot be made to it in any given year. During his administration, Governor Romney made five appointments to this board. All of the individuals appointed to the board were supported by GOAL.

Proclamations: During his administration, Governor Romney issued a proclamation declaring May 7, 2005 as “The Right to Bear Arms Day”. The proclamation was issued on this date to coincide with GOAL’s Annual Banquet.

* It should be noted for readers of this report that are not familiar with Massachusetts politics that the titles of the legislation do not always reflect the intent. For instance the bill entitled “An Act Further Regulating Certain Weapons” was actually a pro-second amendment bill that began the process of reforming the state’s gun laws.

Chapter 101 of the Acts of 2003: An Act Relative to the Inland Fisheries and Game Fund

In Mitt Romney’s first budget as governor in 2003 he proposed that the state do away with all of the “minor funds” within the state’s accounting system. At the time there were around 80 or so minor funds dealing with all sorts of government programs. The Massachusetts House and Senate followed suit.

As a result of this the Inland Fisheries and Game Fund, considered a "minor fund", was done away with and all the money was diverted into the General Fund in an attempt to balance the state budget. The Inland Fisheries and Game Fund is where all of the sporting license fees (hunting, fishing, trapping, etc.) are deposited. Unknowingly the Governor had touched what is referred to as a “Third Rail” in politics.

The Inland Fisheries and Game Fund is considered to be sacred among sportsmen, conservationists and environmentalist in Massachusetts. The Fund, which was created by sportsmen, accounts for over 90% of the review that our Fish & Wildlife Agency operates on. The dedicated Fund was also necessary under federal law if the state wanted to take advantage of matching money from the federal government.

As a result of the action, a coalition of sportsmen, conservationists and environmentalist formed the Massachusetts Conservation Alliance (MCA) to rescue the fund. After several months of lobbying the legislature and the Governor’s office, the MCA was successful in the re-instatement of the Inland Fisheries and Game Fund. The Governor signed the re-instatement legislation into law in October of 2003.

Chapter 150 of the Acts of 2004: An Act Further Regulating Certain Weapons

This is a perfect example of don’t believe in titles. The bill was the greatest victory for gun owners since the passage of the gun control laws in 1998 (Chapter 180 of the Acts of 1998). It was a reform bill totally supported by GOAL. Press and media stories around the country got it completely wrong when claimed the bill was an extension of the “assault weapon” ban that had sunset at the federal level. They could not have been more wrong. Unfortunately for the Governor, someone had also wrongly briefed him about the bill. As a result the Lt. Governor and the Governor made statements at the bill signing ceremony that angered GOAL members. The following is what the bill actually did:

1. Established the Firearm License Review Board (FLRB). The 1998 law created new criteria for disqualifying citizens for firearms licenses that included any misdemeanor punishable by more than two years even if no jail time was ever served.

For instance, a first conviction of operating a motor vehicle under the influence would result in the loss of your ability to own a handgun for life and long guns for a minimum of five years. This Board is now able to review cases under limited circumstances to restore licenses to individuals who meet certain criteria.

2. Mandated that a minimum of $50,000 of the licensing fees be used for the operation of the FLRB so that the Board would not cease operating under budget cuts.

3. Extended the term of the state’s firearm licenses from 4 years to 6 years.

4. Permanently attached the federal language concerning assault weapon exemptions in 18 USC 922 Appendix A to the Massachusetts assault weapons laws. This is the part that the media misrepresented.

In 1998 the Massachusetts legislature passed its own assault weapons ban (MGL Chapter 140, Section 131M). This ban did not rely on the federal language and contained no sunset clause. Knowing that we did not have the votes in 2004 to get rid of the state law, we did not want to loose all of the federal exemptions that were not in the state law so this new bill was amended to include them.

5. Re-instated a 90 day grace period for citizens who were trying to renew their firearm license. Over the past years, the government agencies in charge had fallen months behind in renewing licenses. At one point it was taking upwards of a year to renew a license. Under Massachusetts law, a citizen cannot have a firearm or ammunition in their home with an expired license.

6. Mandated that law enforcement must issue a receipt for firearms that are confiscated due to an expired license. Prior to this law, no receipts were given for property confiscated which led to accusations of stolen or lost firearms after they were confiscated by police.

7. Gave free license renewal for law enforcement officers who applied through their employing agency.

8. Changed the size and style of a firearm license to that of a driver’s license so that it would fit in a normal wallet. The original license was 3” x 4”.

9. Created stiffer penalties for armed home invaders.

Chapter 137 of the Acts of 2005: An Act Relative to a Loaded Shotgun or Rifle

Prior to this bill passing there were two different laws on the books in Massachusetts that defined what a loaded muzzle loader was. This bill corrected the language in the laws so that now both provide that if the priming device is removed, the muzzle loader is considered unloaded. Although this bill sounds like a “no brainer” it took nearly 5 years to pass.

Chapter 137 of the Acts of 2006: An Act Removing Automatic Qualifications for Certain Licenses

The Hunter Education bill, S.469, was signed into law by Governor Mitt Romney on July 6, 2006.

The new law will require that all first time hunters complete a hunter education course prior to being issued a hunting or sporting license. This was already the law prior to very confusing language that was passed in SECTION 7 of Chapter 180 of the Acts of 1998. GOAL successfully had an amendment included to amend the bill to “grandfather” anyone who has been issued a license prior to January 1, 2007.

Chapter 177 of the Acts of 2006: An Act Further Regulating the Use of Target Shooting Weapons

As part of the 1998 law the Massachusetts legislature passed severe restrictions on the sale of handguns in Massachusetts by creating an absurd list of testing requirements that all handguns must be subjected to before being eligible for sale in the state. At the same time, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office fraudulently used the consumer protection laws of the state to do the same thing. Because of these actions, high grade target pistols could not be sold in Massachusetts. This bill addressed that issue.

This is what the new law does:

Provides that any firearm lawfully owned or possessed under a license issued under this chapter on or before October 21, 1998 would be exempt from the testing criteria. This language was passed into law in Section 79 of the Acts of 1998, but was never actually placed into the statutes. This law now established this exemption in Chapter 140.

Instructs the Executive Office of Public Safety, with the advice of the Gun Control Advisory Board, to create a list of formal target shooting firearms that shall be exempt from the testing criteria. This process will be similar to how the approved roster works.

EOPS passed 501 CMR 9.00 a regulation to provide free replacement licenses.

During his administration, the Executive Office of Public Safety approved a new regulation providing free replacement firearm licenses to those who had them stolen or lost. (A resident license fee in Massachusetts at that time was $100 every 6 years.) Prior to this regulation being created a citizen would have to repeat the entire application process and pay the entire fee to acquire a replacement license.

Chapter 48 of the Acts of 2006: An Act Reducing Gang Violence (Section 6 – committing or concealing a crime)

Although this particular legislation was not a GOAL bill, we list it here because there were several anti-second amendment sections in the original draft. The legislative sponsors of the bill, GOAL, and the Romney administration all worked together to remove any bad sections. We were successful in doing so and actually came up with some new language that more affectively went after the criminal element.

It appears to me that voting for either Romney or Gingrich would be voting for the same sort of Republicans that people have been voting in for decades now. Neither of these clowns is interested in pushing for the serious reforms needed to save the country, and will just carry on they way they've always done. And even if we did get a President who was for serious reformation and restoration of the country, we'd still have a divided, bloated, wasteful and spendthrift Congress, and nothing of import would get done. The restoration MUST begin in Congress, just as the degradation of our country was effected by Congress. We need an incremental but nonstop move AWAY from the brink of disaster, away from big government bureaucracy, overspending, and intrusion on corporate business and personal freedoms. I don't there there is any one presidential candidate that can move Congress on his/her own. The kind of reform we need originates from the representatives WE put in Congress.

WE ONLY GET THE GOVERNMENT WE DESERVE, PEOPLE.

If half of the populace in this country goes for the ideals of Social Welfare State, then we as a rich and successful nation are doomed, doomed to become like the Europeans, with their shortages, low GNP, high unemployment, lack of personal freedoms, and even occasional wars of conquest. YOU REALLY WANNA BECOME LIKE THEM ?

I agree Kurt....!
.........as for the restrictive gun-laws in Massachusetts, a couple years ago, a Kentucky punk was arrestted in Boston for having a shotgun in the hallway of an apartment building, and not having a Firearms ID License.....
.....With all their restrictions there, when it came to the court trial, the jury let this drunken punk go!......
The question then is, why have all their goofey laws? I don't get it!....bobh

BTW, who is more pro-Second amendment, Romney or Gingrich??

I was hoping Perry would do better. He's probably the most gun-friendly of the lot (maybe Paul is better, who knows). He actually goes out and shoots ARs for the fun of it. I know a gunsmith that had his custom .45 ACP in to work on. Too bad he's not as well together on everything else.

Beautiful women are like well built machineguns: Some should just be looked at, and left alone, while others were built to get hot.
