The links that fully surround the cartridges like that means that the cartridge had to be extracted from the belt by pulling it rearward. The only German guns I know of that do that are the Maxim series - the MG08 and MG08/15.

As for the markings, the "S" corresponds to Suhl's well-known firm Simson & Co, the droop wing eagle above the number 46 is the inspection/aceptance marking and the numbers may correspond to December 1930.
