mg34 lafette spare bolt box

Post by biochembri »

Here are pictures of my recent ebay purchase for a mg34 lafette spare bolt box. Your opinions are encouraged. I would also be interested in seeing other examples of this items from other collectors out there. I dont know if this is original. The markings are as follows: TWO WaA! Now that seems strange for a field made item. Makes me suspicous. One WaA has the "K16" and the other "WaA63". The only other marking is a "WK". All of these are located on the inside top of the lid. In case you were interested, the cost of the bolt box was $329.50 with shipping.

The nuts and bolts look like they came from Home Depot. Check to see if they are metric, but I think they should be painted rather than looking new.

Here are some pics of my 34 bolt box. I can't find any markings in the lid or outside. It also came with its own bolt box stand.

Your bolt box is original. The mounting screws are not. I too found WaA markings on my box when I stripped it.

Not all spare bolt boxes were field made.

mg34 spare bolt box length

Post by biochembri »

I have three mg34 bolts, one is I believe an original and two more TNW Semi-modified. All of them have the extension on the back and thus do not fit the spare bolt box. According Myrvang a slot was cut to accomodate the lengthened bolts. This was stated in the memos around 1941. This would lead me to conclude this is a rather early war bolt box as it does not have a slot cut. Does anyone have one with a slot cut into it? I assume the bulge on the side is not what Myrvang is talking about.

You can get the bolts to fit perfectly by rotating that lever to the side, instead of sticking straight back.
