MG 42 parts box?

Post by Zamex »

Hi, this has been offered to me as some MG 42 parts box. Can someone identify it, please? What would be its value, if it is real thing? It seems to be quite small.

The one that you are being offered might be real. That said here is your info.

Just not how to tell one from another.

Great, thanks! I have just bought it for 22 EUR. I wonder if it was also used with MG 42....

The steel box was used to keep small parts for the MG42, MG34, or MG13 organized in the ammo can with replacement parts (E-Can). I have seen them with a waffenamt, but it's not common. Often there will be a rubber ink stamped eagle or a 3 letter code stamped in the sheet metal inside the lid, but many don't have any markings. Some have all the paint worn off, but usual is green paint outside, with red primer inside, and sometimes the inside is painted green too (not common). 30 euros or less is a good deal. 35 euros is average, with excellent condition going for 40 euros or more. In the US, they range from $40 to $75, depending on condition.
