Hello,
I have two M53's - that are made up to look like MG42's.
Is there a source (preferably in the US, but not essential) of MG42 style bakelite or plastic grips out there, that some of the collectors here have had good luck with.
I would like to replace these beat to hell Yugo grips with some of the MG42 style that don't cost hundreds of dollars.
I believe it is a matter of the grip "lines" going all the way across the plastic, as opposed to stopping short of either side of the grip.
I do not need originals for what I do - purely an aesthetic recreation.
Thank you,
Pit.
*Bubba got himself and waffenampt and stamped the hell out of this second Yugo kit build.
Look at this bastardized top cover - moral do not buy sight unseen on a fellows description.
Good quality MG42 grips.

Re: Good quality MG42 grips.
RTG sells newly made (US) black grips.

I also picked up one of the black US set from RTG., which look really nice too. They did require me to grind a small amount of material of the ends to fit my WLA grip stick. It was easy though.
I also spruced up my beat up yugo grips on my M53, by lightly sanding them, then applying a couple of coats of birchwood caset tru-oil. Made them look almost new.
So there are two inexpensive options right there........

Great - thank you.
Was directed to some economic originals, too for only $10 more.

A very interesting site. -- Title states WW11 grips etc -- click on pic and then you get post war yugo from 50's -- 60's -- sounds like bait and switch to me.

I didn't notice that 42'; original WW2 from the 50-60's - hmmm, sounds like someone is off with their dates, lol.
They are post war, WW2 style, which will work for me - but yes, the grips are not actually WW2 era, for sure.
Well spotted.
