MG34 Trigger gate area

Post by ChrisPCook »

As a lot of you know the TNW receiver is shaped differently than the original MG34 rec. in the trigger gate area. Here are the specs, as you can see the TNW is ovaled out farther to the rear to accomodate the action of the "half moon" on the trigger gate. You will need to open up the area on your 34 receiver, I did this with a grinding wheel on an angle grinder, some files, and a round disc sander to finish up on my drill press. Chris...

The step that the original MG34 rec is on is not as deep, the same measurement on the TNW is 11.50mm.

The distance to the TNW is 11.50 mm taken the same way. I take a "glob" of JB weld and let it harden on top of the original German "step", after it hardens I take my metal piece that is cut and set it on top, I slowly remove a little of the "jb glob" until the plate distance from the bottom is 11.50 mm.

Plate welded and set to proper depth, after it is done it will need cleaned up for the bolt to clear, I take a cutoff wheel on a dremel tool, and dremel out the old "original step" that remains underneath to clear the way for the FCG. Chris...

Is your trigger step and the filler for the F/A block two separate pieces welded in your receiver?

Yes, this is just a small plate for a "bearing area" for the spring on the trigger gate. I have a seperate blocker in the underside of the receiver which was just a piece of small bar stock inserted into the holding area for the FA parts and welded into place. There is then a small block in the bottom channel in the back to prevent the insertion of a FA bolt. So, three seperate areas to modify. Chris...
