I have read in various threads that the original MG34 receiver is made of 'ductile iron'. I am not really familiar with this term. I understand the composition of 4030/4040 and 1018. 'Ductile iron' sounds a lot like iron with carbon added, which is low carbon steel. I'm no expert and so I am wondering, does anyone have a greater undestanding of 'ductile iron' or a similar AMS type spec that reacts like it. I realize these old material were not to any present standards, exactly.
