Re painting a lafette mount

Post by kevin917z »

Ok so I got a steal on an mg34 lafette mount someone stored in a garden shed. The paint was all but gone and I had no choice but to strip and reprime it to save it from rusting. You can't tell after repriming and replacing a few parts that were deeply pitted but the paint comes off real easy with brake cleaner, acetone etc. the German paint did not come off easy. Is there some kind of paint I need to get. I tested a few parts with paint from 1944 but it came off easy too. Any advice appreciated

Cover it with a clear matte.

Get it real clean with acetone, brake cleaner. Use a high quality red oxide primer. Then paint and the clear matte over it as suggested. Google paint adhesion
There's some good links on bicycle and motorcycle/auto sites....
