Full length recuperator hole?

Post by Abominog »

I have a cut original receiver and the recuperator hole is drilled all the way through to the rear of the receiver. It's all blued, so doesn't look like somebody monkeyed it. Any thoughts?

I don't know John, not familiar w/ MG3 recuperator. This is an MG34, not 42.

The inside face of the exterior of the hole has been removed, revealing a threaded section, so the end of the recuperator one would assume would be threaded.

Ah, I missed that this thread is in the MG34 section. I was thinking 42. Disregard

From searching this board there are apparently two lengths of recuperator. However, AFAIK neither would be as long as required for this receiver, and neither is threaded on the rear. I suppose pics are now in order.

Abominog,
Try looking at the outside and inside of the receiver....the full length of the recuperator-spring and plunger "hole" to see if a "stop-pin" has been removed or sheared off. Replace as needed.

I believe that some of these could possible have been drilled all the way through the MG34 receiver.

......but photos would still be nice.

Last.......if there was never a "stop-pin" to limit the length and allow for spring-pressure............you can always make a hole and add a "stop-Pin"....."or" make a shop steel pin to put behind the spring to take up the extra space.

The cut-receiver piece you have is from an MG34 that was built with the "Reglar" rate-of-fire reducer system. The barrel-return plunger hole is drilled front-to-back and houses a longer-than-normal barrel return pushrod. The special receiver is also threaded in the rear for a spring and plug setup, and the receiver uses a special lever-arm. Most of the special Regler parts are (were) in the handgrip.
You have something really special there.
Try to post some pictures of your receiver parts.
