Hi,
One thing I have noticed which I don't quite understand is this. The rubber eyepiece eye protector isn't interchangeable, the one with the scope only fits the scope and doesn't fit the periscope or correction it will, be it stretches so much that it won't fit back again once it has been stretched. The two sizes are different and so you would need two rubber eyepieces. See below for the difference in sizes. I suppose you just carry two in the box? Tim

....and from that a thought just struck me out of the blue, suppose you do carry two. Where would it go, if you have it on the periscope it supports the end and holds it firm against the box and stops any movement. I have just tried this as an experiment. Is this logical? Tim

Hi Tim,
The periscope was made for the MGZ/MGz34 and the reason for the larger end for the rubber eye-protector.
These were used with the MGz40 optics with the addition of the small "adaptor" (usually made from a fired/cut-down piece of aluminum cartridge-case from a flare-pistol.......which is what I believe I am seeing in one of your photos.

When used with the MGZ/MGz34, the MGZ/MGz34 rubber eye-protector would just be removed and placed onto the periscope.
When used with the MGz40, the MGz40 rubber eye-protector would be removed from the MGz40 optic and placed into the carry-can. The Gunner would then just not put his eye as close to the periscope opening.
