Changing the MG-34 Barrel Collar

Postby Franz20 » Tue Dec 09, 2014 3:33 am

Hey everyone!

Any advice on removing the Barrel collar of a 34 barrel? I managed to drill the pin out, but I'd like to revert the barrel to it's original caliber (using a new collar).

It's a 8mm barrel with a .308 collar.

My issue:

The barrel Collar is VERY tight. I can't get it to budge. I've tried heating it etc. But I'm not sure how to unscrew it.

Does it turn clockwise? Counter-clockwise?

Does lefty-loosey/Righty-tighty apply here?

Also does anyone have an 8mm Barrel (missing the collar) as I have another spare collar I'd like to make another barrel for my carrier).

Thank you for your time!

Frank

Hi Frank,
Yes......just like a standard-threaded bolt/nut.

Some MG34 Barrel-Extensions have a "pin" in them that will need to be removed prior to un-screwing the barrel-extension. Some are very hard to remove....and may require a large bench-vise and a hit from a brass-drift and hammer to start things moving.

Heat sometimes helps........and if we knew if the barrel was "trash", we could make other suggestions.

Thank you! I will try unscrewing it. If that fails I will keep this thread updated.
