Single Saw Cut 1944 MG42

Post by cbass »

Looks like an easy fix if you have the money, time, and proper licensing. Still I hope someone on this forum ends up getting it! I however was under the impression that firearms these days had to be of 3 cuts and not 1. Still It looks great to me.

My Thoughts

Look at it quick, copy pics as it might be pulled off. LOTS of great pics with a lot of interesting info in them. Look at the jig.

Also this is a full complete MG42 for us to look at. What front sight, what rear markings. Things to check out.

The law used to allow 3 cuts with a band saw. I don't know if 1 cut with a bandsaw legally destroyed a receiver years ago. If not, then this is technically still an MG.

legally speaking they used to allow 2 saw cuts if the center section was destroyed or removed. The parts displayed in the auction would be considered an MG by ATF if they were asked. That could be put together in a very short time by an inexperienced guy with a harbor freight welder. I'm surprised its lasted this long. I have a feeling it will be pulled at some point. People seem to have little knowledge of the NFA regs and I frequently hear from guys that since its only for my personal use its ok......wonder how far that will get you in court.

My advice would be to stay clear other than digging into the popcorn and watching.
sometimes I wonder if they really do go fishing.....

Still as I said at the start-- Great source of info and the way it should look and interesting weld jig. Note how front end fits in and also the read.
If it's still up download the pics.
And like it was just said --- sit back with the popcorn and watch what happens. Someone might get away with it. Or NOT!

Interesting - just checked and it's still up. The party selling it has an FFL at this time that is. Now it could get even more interesting.

Pass the salt please as the popcorn is popping and I'm a watching to see what happens.

The NFA Handbook, which shows clearly how a receiver must be cut to be legally destroyed, is available as a free download from ATF, or from the Links/Download page on my website. No valid excuse of ignorance could be offered for a one-cut.

Looks like someone made the reserve, $6000.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.

The "winning" bidder is the only bidder. All the bids are his and it looks like he started at the bottom and kept going til he hit the reserve. Maybe its a new way to run guns. Give a chop and sell them.....
