On the bottom picture-outside edge, about 1/8 inch from the end.The front of the buffer spring retainer is more rounder on the yugo also, not as square an edge as the German one. ---bil

looks like wwII german ?

so my wooden buttstock is a postwar stock because it wont fit 100% there is a little gap...
how can i recognize a real wwII buttstock that fit my mg42 ?

this is my wooden buttstock:

Looks are one thing, fit is another. the threads on the German buffer are different than those on a Yugo buffer. The result is that you should use a Yugo buffer with a Yugo buttstock and a German buffer together with a German buttstock. I know there is a combination of German and Yugo buffer/stock that can work, but I forget the correct combination. I don't have an M-53.

Yours certainly looks genuine. I found this pic on my computer and it shows the difference clearly. I think it was from pirates build tutorial. Oh and it is Yugo left and German right.

Jens,
Looks like a post war German buffer and stock combo.
the buffer nose on DAs picture has a beveled angle at the tip, typical of WW2 . your rounded nose is a post war pattern from what i have seen.

wood buttstocks do not fit 100% tight. unless you have an 1/8" or greater gap you have a good combo. it is common to find 1/16" or less gap with a wood buttstock.

see second post first picture

your mileage may vary.

This might be a stupid comment and idea, but couldn't you use a spacer to take up the gap? That's what I do when fitting a blade to a handel and there is a little space or gap to fill. Now I know comparing blades and guns is like fruits and vegtables but the basic principals should be the same am I right? :D

Be kind if I'm wrong,I'm still learning
