Frankenstein MG42

Post by BELinNC »

Really have appreciated this site and it's wealth of information over the years. Finally joined again after loosing track of my original member info. Thought some of you might get a kick out a picture of a just for fun project. I am a C2 SOT by the way and have been a long time collector of WW2 German MGs, cannons, vehicles etc.
I am tinkering with this MG42. It has spade grips, recently converted to MG3 specs, mounted on a soft mount atop what used to be a twin MG3 pedestal mount and topped off with an Oerlikon 20mm reflector sight on a fabbed up mount all in the back of an ex German army Wolf G Wagen.
I recently shot this MG42 on the line at Knob Creek in stock form and it shot fantastic. I bought the spade grips there and began this conversion.

The spade grips add a new dimension of fun and it is nice just hanging on and being behind all the noise and shaking etc.
Glad I picked them up. Thanks for all your hard work on the manuals. I got one of your Solothurn S18-1000 manuals a few years back and it has been very valuable. There is a bolt accelerator/assist mechanism that had me close to tears a while back. It is easy to reassemble that beast with it out of sequence and all looks great until you haul it all out to the range, set it up and pull the trigger and nothing! The manual cleared it up and got me back in operation.

I can't take any credit for the spade grips. I just bought them and installed them! They are really well done and appear to be a close copy of the German helicopter door gun set up.

The spade grips are a nice touch. John I'm glad you came up with the idea, glad I sold you folks some of he parts and Charlie did Great job of putting it all together.
Thanks for the spade grip run.
Folk's they are a nice touch. If you are thinking about getting a pair do it before they run out. Who knows if they are going to do another run.

Its a very strong pedestal mount and versatile. I can mount the 20mm Solothurn no problem. Beats laying prone. Picture is same mount before I put it in the Wolf.

If anyone thinks the spade grips are too expensive, here's a link to an ebay ad where a set sold for $801.
Charlie Jones and I sell MG42 spade grips for $475 + $18 shipping.
