My first MG42?

Post by Brandon11 »

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this board but I was considering a new MG42, I can't tell if this is an all original German one or not and I would appreciate the help!

You can't host pictures on photobucket to link to another place without paying photobucket money.

When downloads aren't uploaded to this board, then end up gone when the host pulls a photobucket trick like the above and starts charging for downloads.

When hosted on Google drive, they'll last until the owner of that drive gets tired of them being there, or forgets that the link to them exists.

Upload pictures to this board, and they'll be here as long as the board is here (total crashes excluded).

Looks to be all or at least mostly German. Is it full auto or semi-auto? Harry

There is no bolt extension, so it looks full auto to me.

You can see that the barrel door isn't straight. Looks like someone blew the gun, and the barrel door popped open from bending in the middle. You have to take off the door by drilling the rivets, then you can straighten it properly in a press and rerivet back into place. The spot weld would be in about the right place for the barrel stop, so it was either rewelded or replaced. Looks pretty good otherwise.

I am up in Canada so this guy does not work at all. Completely deactivated (but well done). I have been thinking of ordering a semi auto receiver and set to use this as a parts gun, but I would have to read into the legality of that before I do anything. Would that barrel release lever be hard to fix? I have no rivet experience...

The barrel release lever looks OK, it's the barrel door that looks bowed in the middle.
