camping, again

Post by Michael J »

Hunting season isn't here yet, so the guns are not accompanying us this time, but just a couple pics of myself and the adventures. :bnija:

Walther pellet pistol (yeah i blinked...) and i'm not actually that dark, just crazy dirty from dust. I was following my friend, who knows the place better than me, and it hasn't rained on these dirt roads for like 2 weeks!

This river is from a glacier-fed lake, and holy crap was it cold

Logging excavator i came across, mind you i am like only 5'4" , but this thing was still huge

Nice pictures, Michael -- especially that georgeous blue water in the glacier lake. You have some really nice scenery in your area.

I'd love to see some more.

In fact, it would be nice to see everybody's pictures of especially beautiful scenery in your part of your country. How about a few snaps, guys?

Thanks Gary :D , the clean cool water is quite refreshing! It is nice to be able to ATV up old logging roads and out in the forests where you can find nature that hasn't been totally ruined by man (disregarding a few clear-cuts). Closer you get to the cities, the dirtier the lakes look :( , with some of the inner city ones even being closed due to the unsanitary levels of it's contents.

Due to popular demand  :

You can see the excavator down below in the center if you look close

Bet you didn't know that you were camping in the company of the Abominable Snowman, did you? Look carefully at the left area of the last picture. You can clearly see the Yeti moving away from you. There was more excitement going on there than you knew!

Hey Mike,

I was camping in Canada as well two weeks ago!

Was in hmm...Heckula? Some 'island' in I think still Manitoba!

Was in Ottawa at the Rolling Rivers(?) and fishing in a few lakes...great fishing...did pretty well...cost me over 30 bucks for a non-residence licsense though!!

...you are a brave man not wearing a shirt...I was spraying the OFF with the highest DEET in it and the mosquitos were STILL thick!!

Glad I heard about 'After Bite'!

Good to hear your camping up north here went well :D! Mosquito's started to come after me at about 8pm or so, when things began to cool. WAY too hot to wear a shirt until dark  . After-bite is good stuff, and i was using OFF spray all night long. Mosqitos (and flying bugs in general) are quite thick in those parts due to being pitted with lakes everywhere.

You did quite a bit of travelling huh, winnipeg to ottawa is big drive! I'm glad fishing went all well!

yeah, the trip wasn't as bad as I was dreading.

Winnipeg to Ottawa was a LONG drive...

Fishing was great...rewarding actually catching fish!

On the plane to Winnipeg was talking with a local and he was telling me about elk hunting...would be cool to be a part of that hunt.

They got elk in western PA here...thought about hiring a local guide and trying that out

Elk and Moose are what i'm going for later this summer, well probably after summer is over. More like September/October i think :D. I've never gone after anything bigger than grouse, i'm more into "hunting" just for the ATVing and exploring. But it should be fun, heading up farther north for some bigger game, even if we don't end up getting any.

deer has alot of meat...elk and moose have ALOT more!

part of why I haven't hunted deer since I lived out in the country is don't know who to take to butcher it into nicely wraped packages(I am not about to spend all day carving up a deer or greater creature)...and then what to do with all that meat in regards to storage and consuming it before it goes bad!

 , last time my friend went moose hunting (the one taking me this time), after having it all carved up, their deep-freeze was FULL! The sausage and peperoni were amazing, but the one steak i had was a little gamey (wild tasting). I'll be sure to get a lot of pics when i go, should be a blast
