Hello Maxim 08 collectors and friends of 08,

I am new in this forum and first like to say Hallo to all MG08 "Fans"
I'm from Germany and collect about 15 Years all Bavarian Stuff from 1888 up to 1921 (Einwohnerwehr)
and MG08.

For information: In Germany its not allow to owen a 08 (or other full auto gun) where is possible to fire,
My example is corresponding with German law,
Its deactivated by:
closing chamber by welding and drilling 6 holes in the barrel, (to see on one of the pics)
The lock is deaktivated by removing material by grinding the area firingpin-hole and close the firingpin-hole by welding.

I'm reading some threads because the 08 in this forum, and i have to say: great Forum !!

First i'm searching for a good and original example MG 08 Trench-Mount, not more
All Offers are welcome - or: maybe soemone knows who can help me to find one.

also, please have a look to my website
http://www.mg08.de

Sorry for my not very well english writting!!

Thanks and kindly regards from Bavaria
Fritz

You have a great website. You need an English version :)

Trench mounts are hard over here too. Good luck in your search!

Please post pictures of any rare or good items not on your website. We would all love to see.

Matt

Hello. Very nice collection. I am currently looking for an MG 08/15 bipod, fusee cover with spring assembly, and feedblock. Would there be any of those parts to be found in Germany? I was stationed in Schweinfurt Germany for 3 years. Beautiful country. Thanks for sharing your photos.

Hello georg,

nice to know you like bavaria and you had a good time there.

here is not eaysy to find goot spare-parts for the 08/15, not often are original parts for sell,
special the receiver and the fusee-cover are very hard to find.
Bipod ist more easy to find.
at the moment , a 0815 ist in http://www.egun.de for sell, price is 4500 Euro.

Greetings from bavaria
Fritz

Wilkommen!

Welcome to our board! I am happy to have so many European collectors on here. I have a DWM MG08, which I posted pictures of down the board. It works, if you can ever make it over here, I'll let you shoot a belt, on me!

My gun is also a DWM 1918 gun. I'd love to hear more about the use of the guns after the war by the Polizei and Freikorps. I noted you are interested in the Einwohnerwehr, I occasionally see GEW 98's over here with a stamping of EWB on the buttstock- I believe that's the same group, did they also mark their 08/15's or 08's like that??

Welcome aboard!

Glen :D :welcome:

Very cool website!

Very cool website! Thanks for posting the link!!! I love that you have part of the bavarian manual scanned in there. I have a collection of those.

A question:

I noticed a similar arrow on the lid of your holz-pk (wood ammo can) as I have seen on the double ammo cans, an arrow with feathers pointed in the direction of fire. Was the PK 15 (the regular 250 round ammo can) marked the same way??? I have never seen one marked like this, but the original paint jobs are long in the past at this point: but I want to make mine look new.

Thanks,

Glen

It appears your 1917 dwm 08 has no checkering on the handles. I have a 1917 dwm and it does not have any either. It appears another wwi photo has a gun without the checkering as well.
My 1917 gun is all matching and original finish and I believe the grips to be original. Do you know if they stopped checkering the handles for a period in 1917 from dwm?
I have a 1918 gun and it is checkered, as is my 1916 spandau gun.

I tried to post a picture but the grips are in the right hand part of the photo I have and this website crops them off the pic. I even resized so nothing but the grip is showing and it still crops them off. I don't have any other close ups of my guns grips so everyone will just have to use their imagination. Sorry.

If you want to email the pic to DA or Bil and they are normally willing to post it for you.

Or pm me and I'll forward you my email address and try to crop resize and post the pic of your grips.

That cropping problem will go away if you resize the photo, CHANGING ITS NAME, then posting it again in a new message. This website continues to use the OLD large photo if you just edit your post, and resize the photo without changing its name.

Hi John,

you are right, there is no checkering at the grips of the DWM 1917 gun.

I don't have a idea and no any informations about stopp the checkering at DWM's.

I owen also a Spandau 1917, the Grips are checkered.

Pic please find attached..

greetings

Thats what I am seeing. Seems every gun I have seen with smooth grips that are believed to be original are on a 1917 dwm gun.

I believe mine to be original to my gun as everything else is matching and original. The grips show light handling marks consistent with the wear on the gun and are definitely old. Here are a few pics of the gun.
