MG08 water fitting thread size???

Anyone know what the thread size is for where the water hose fitting screws into the MG08 water jacket? I have a rusted up thread to try and clear and measuring the IMA supplied reproduction fitting is not helping as I think it may be undersized? comes out at 24 threads per inch and diameter is very odd at 18.6mm????? Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Andrew

I think all threads are Standard (Imperial to the rest of the world). So I think that 18.6mm might be 3/4 inch. I don't know off hand... but thats a guess.

I dont doubt that theory and Im sort of picking that the fitting is undersized as 3/4" is 19mm in metric terms but was hoping for some confirmation before I source a tap and clear the threads as the last thing I want to do is re-cut the thread in the water jacket the wrong size.maybe someone could measure the thread of an original fitting to determine the correct thread? Sorry but I dont have access to any originals.

Andrew

Hello Andrew,

attached the drawing / messurement from a original Conector and the threads from the gun.
The thread of IMA-Part match to the original very well.

Thank you for confirming this :D this is quite an odd thread as I cant match it with any commercially produced taps and dies.I may have to make a special tool to clear the thread.....$$$$.... :(

just have someone thread a piece of round to match then with a dremel or hack saw undercut across the thread in three or four places, will work fine to clear out the thread

hello Andrew,

did yo have done the thread repair?

Had the same problem with my new 08 Semi Auto.

I found a screw tap for this work,
had to made a threaded bushing,
inside M19 x 1,0mm (match good to the Steamconector)
outside Diameter approx 19,3mm (without threads)

you have to dremel out the damaged original thread,
make a diameter 19,3mm.
Now soldering the bushing with a low temperatur solder.
Works easy and match very well.

if you need a bushing, let me know.

Greetings from Germany
Fritz

Hi Fritz,

Thank you for the advice on your thread repair, it sounds like a good solution. I did manage to clean the thread enough to get the water fitting to screw into it by following some of the above advice and putting a small cut into the male thread to help clear the female thread of rust. The fitting is now in place with a good coating of anti seize paste to ensure that it can be removed again in the future.

Andrew

Andrew,
on my gun, the threads are gone, realy damaged.
I understand, the threads of your gun are "only" rusty,
so its was not nececary to install a bushing.

greetings and a hapy new year

Hi Fritz Yes just rusted from years of neglect,I was not able to even screw the fitting into the thread,I think I was fortunate to be able to clean the thread successfully otherwise it would have been a case of fitting an insert as you have done.
Happy 2013 to you also!
