M53 grip assembly
Hi everyone,
today I tried to change my M53 safety switch for an original MG 42 one. I managed to do the change, but now I am not sure how to put it back together. Mainly the spring troubles me, where should it be positioned? Above or below the green marked rivets? I have managed to push the rivet on the right through with a lot of effort, but now the spring goes right through the middle of the first rivet hole.

Re: M53 grip assembly
A cutaway picture would maybe help.. or anything to see the correct placement of all parts.

viewtopic.php?f=39&t=3904 Look about halfway down the page.If in doubt, always check the 'stickies' section first, almost anything you really need to know is there.Good luck, and if you can't get it together, let me know,I will take one apart and get pictures. ---bil

Re: M53 grip assembly
With the safety OFF,pull the trigger (with grip removed from gun!!) the rear of the top piece will move up about 3 /16 --not very much. The safety also will not slide. Now pull back on the small toggle on the other end.The top piece should pop up,and the safety can be engaged. Hope this helps. ---bil

Re: M53 grip assembly
The forward end of the spring presses against the inside of the trigger guard behind the trigger. It doesn't simply go under the pins above the trigger, it goes in a vertical position straight down from the pivot point.

Re: M53 grip assembly
I cant move the safety, the part above prevents it in this position.

Re: M53 grip assembly
The rear of the part above safety is in my case in level with the top of the grip stock. In pictures I have found on net it shoult stick out above it. So it is wrong.

Re: M53 grip assembly
The inverted U shaped sheet metal part at the front of the hole in the top of the trigger group. Pull it rearward. The rear catch will snap up, and the safety will work. You now have the trigger group assembled correctly.

Re: M53 grip assembly
Nothing happened. The U-part makes a click sound and returns to front, and the sear part did nothing

Re: M53 grip assembly
Is my spring positionet correctly ABOVE those two pins?
If yes, can I now insert somehow the sear part or is it necessary to be done in different order?

This picture http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y270/d ... 69_208.jpg would help a lot if in higher resolution.

Re: M53 grip assembly
No, your spring is not positioned correctly above those two pins. The front end of the spring does NOT go above the pins. The front end of the spring goes behind the trigger.
The front end of the spring does NOT go above the pins. The front end of the spring goes behind the trigger.

I recommend manual PDV 918.
