Mainspring question??

Post by ScottD »

Guys, Ive got the rails installed and am about to function test the bolt/feed assy/bbl lockup. (no trigger group yet, waiting to fund the SA mods) What exactly do I need to do to the main spring? I assume I have to cut off some coils, but how many?

I think I paid 6.00 for a new spring several months ago but I dont remember to whom.....Ive watched the posts and assume Ill receive a new manufactured one sometime soon. In the meanwhile, how do I work the stock spring?
My soultion for everything "Get a bigger hammer or larger caliber!"

there is no exact number of spring loops to tell you to cut off.
Its based on the thickness of your spring wire and the length of your bolt extension.

Cut less off than you think you need to , then try to get an ejection by cocking the handle. keep removing 1/2 loops until you get a soft ejection . under recoil you'll have much more force to give you a positive ejection , and as much spring as you can keep to power the bolt to strip the round from the belt.

Its amazing anything works right around here with a bunch of
