Re: Hammer follow

On the Tula ammo, just to be clear, I don't have a problem with Tula in *most* platforms. I use it as cheap 'blaster ammo' in AK's and even AR's...I just don't recommend Tula .308 in this platform as read many complaints from blown primers to head case separation as you have found. Seems Fals have i...

Re: Hammer follow

I've heard of Tula .308 doing that in these guns...I'd stay away from it in this platform. It may be fine in other guns, but not this one. I'd try some different NATO spec .308 (7.62x51). If you find some South African or German NATO surplus, I'd try that. Stay clear of Indian .308 surplus. Oddly I'...

Re: Hammer follow

Sounds like you are on the right track with the hammer follow. The FP must move freely without any sort of bind. Sometimes taking emery cloth over it and polishing it helps...just don't get carried away and make it small as that will actually cause bind too...just go a little at a time and test. Mak...

Re: Hammer follow

The below thread has a few pics of some of my semi hammers and B/C's related to what you are asking, showing both the hammer G/S mods and notice the semi bolt carriers I have pictured. The smoothest ones I have are the BRP type 2 (4th one on the right) and the modified BRP kit (3rd one) in which I s...

Re: WHERE TO SELL A M53

I'd post it on the FS forum here and if it doesn't sell post it on GB.

Besides posting lots of pics IMO it helps with guns like these to post a video of it running a 50 round belt. You can record a vid, post it on YT, then link it here in the FS post.

I could be wrong, but I think I recall reading it was for an Infrared Illuminator night vision setup.

Re: Semi mg42 parts

For those still interested in semi auto bolts, I see RTG has a few semi auto bolt carriers in stock now, both with bolt head and without. RTG lists them now too with the bolt head (type II). BRP also now have semi auto bolt carriers kits (Type I) as well. Hopefully they will have some grip stocks li...

Re: Wiselite Receiver/Ejection issues

The first thing I'd do (with the gun unloaded) is remove the top cover and pull the charging handle back as far as it will travel. I sit on the floor and hold the gun between my legs and with a small flash light in my mouth (if I don't have a helper) and carefully watch the contact of the recoil spr...

Re: Semi mg42 parts

Last I knew Apex had some NOS stock grips from Wiselite. Apex have the semi grips minus the AR internals. Wouldn't be hard to use one of them. They list a tall and short type, given the choice I'd go with the tall type which moves the hammer lower in regards to the bolt (which is a common issue on t...

Re: Finally took a picture

Get one while you can, kits are drying up and no more are coming. BTW the one I recently got from centerfire was my nicest so far...very long shroud cut with front rail and recup holes intact.

Re: Wise Lite Receiver

A lot would depend on how your shroud is cut. If you have the length at the rear of the shroud it may save you a lot of work. Myself, I enjoy the building of these guns which is why I've built several. I use the Global Machine receiver shells and splice a MG3 rear stub (RTG) onto them which saves me...

Re: Introductions (or one way to increase your post count).

First off welcome. :welcome: My advice is to read, read read, then read some more. Get a set of manuals from John here. They cover the FA, but much of the info from the German designers of this gun will still apply even in semi and you will get a much better understanding of parts names, their funct...

Glad to hear you got it running. Keep it lubed up good and run your loosest belts when you do further testing....run the same ammo too for a base line test. You do know we like pics rights? :) Oh and just so folks know in my above response I meant to say "assuming" rather than "amusing"...That's wha...

Re: WTB: MG42 rear receiver section

Unless you are looking for specific MG42 markings, I would just splice an MG3 rear section on from RTG, thats what I do with all my builds. I use a set Global machining shells for the rear eceiver, then cut and splice the MG3 rear on. Eliminates fitting buffer tabs and riveting them. They have the l...

Re: No second shot

One of the functions of the stud is to capture the ejector button (the piston-like part at the rear of the bolt carrier), so the shaft is needed....(amusing you meant removing the lower shaft portion). What I do when I install the BRP type roller pin (which uses a nice roller bearing in the head) is...

Re: No second shot

John brought up many good points. If I may add a few... Friction/binding is the worst enemy of a SA MG42 platform, be it rails, tight links, hammer contact with the bolt extention etc. First is the hammer could be slightly scraping on the bolt extension scrubbing off it's impact on the F/P. I would ...

Re: MG-3 kits ---What do you think ?

The Germans call it a firing pin holder. :) ...and thats what I will refer to it from here on out to avoid confusion  I hate when everyone calls a part something different, yet was stumped myself when I posted that. So the firing pin holders in 8mm differ in diameter compared to the MG3 firing...
