DO NOT shoot 196 gr 8mm in a G/K43! Way too powerful for the action. If you like shooting that fine rifle, which is a rare and valuable relic, use Romanian or Yugoslavian 8mm ammo, and get the shooter's gas piston/cylinder kit. The original gas cylinder tend to stretch, bulge, and then burst after p...

Super nice. If you want to shoot it occasionally, might I suggest installing a shooter's gas piston/cylinder assembly made by Rob Applegate at http://www.apfeltor.com/ It allows you to reduce the gas pressure applied to the action to a SAFE level. The G/K43 will not last a decent lifespan of shootin...

There was not a widespread problem of OOB explosions experienced by German soldiers, but Mauser did recognise that the potential was there and created the bolt catch device to reduce the possibility to an acceptable level. An original Mauser-made bolt catch is quite rare today, but plenty of postwar...

Tom, Yoo Da Man. Nice work! True inspiration. My brother made a transit case for his rifle, uniform, and equipment, and on one end it has a cooler built in for drinks. It resembles a k98 ammo crate and serves as a bench to sit on at reenactments too. I'm gonna have to build one of these things when ...

Being an experience medieval armourer, I was able to add weld metal onto the shank of the original rivet, grind to fit through the hole, heat the end of the shank with a oxy-acetylene torch WITHOUT HEATING THE CAMMMING PIECE, and use a ball peen hammer to form the head hot. Back up the opposite end ...

That's an excellent description of the function of the "bolt catch", John. You may have noticed also that the bolt catch is not just a metal weight, but is spring loaded much like a shock absorber. Being slammed back and forth between the rear end of the bolt and the locking wedge would certainly ca...

The one and only difference is that little square notch cut below the safety switch on each side. (I'd rather not take all those parts out of my grips right now, because I'm busy packing for vacation! Can you live without it? ) By the way, both of those grips are original MG-42 patrs. You kno...

Gee you fellas really know how to confuse the guy. Look, it's VERY easy. Leave the first TWO links EMPTY for a full auto MG-42. When the bolt flies forward, the gun goes BWWAAAATTTTTTTT!!!! as long as you hold the trigger. SA guns are a WHOLE DIFFERENT deal. They don't work like FA guns, so yeah... ...

Mike's got it right. Leave two rounds out of the end and hang the end link onto the right edge of the feed tray. An experienced MG-42 crew doesn't mess with inserting belt tabs into a closed feedcover. Belt tabs have been known to occasonally cause feed mechanism jams if their end link has been bent...

You can get inexpensive hinges and such off a wooden case of 1970's Romanian 8mm ammo. Ask your buddies if they have any of the ammo crates around. Since I do not believe that the Germans made transit cases for individual machine guns, the markings are pretty much up to you. I would suggest emulatin...
