Re: Paint removal

Shelly, Here's a link to my restoration which I think will help you with a lot of your questions. http://www.mg42.us/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=12162 Secondly, since your tripod appears to have little to no WW2 paint then you might as well just go for the full strip as opposed to the tedious toothpick/sca...

Stegger,
Can you supply a link to the sale or provide other pics of the MG i.e. the other, usual suspect areas?

Re: FUR M.G. AMMO CRATE

Wowzers, a rare find indeed.
Are any of those numbers, i.e. '40' or '45', dates?
Any non destructive way to have a peek inside?

Re: Mg34 bolt box

It has the correct spring retainer/rivets and all the other hardware seems correct, so I would say it is genuine WW2.

Re: Ammo belt storage

Yep, as above, for long term storage just oil and lay them in a can like you would with rounds in, or just chuck 'em in. You could also toss in a few sachets of Silica gel just to be sure.

I was going to say, have you done any searches under '.co.uk' (UK)and '.de' (Germany). That's if you don't mind paying the postage, import duty and tax.

Re: Is this sling period ww2?

Canadian, To me this looks like a good, honest been there and done that WW2 sling. It shares all the characteristics of my MG42(34) sling, specifically, focusing on the forward snap hook (2nd pattern). I would say that this sling will have a Waffenamt, or nothing at all, on the rear pistol grip fitt...

Re: MG34 Sling correct?

Frank, Here are some measurments I've taken from my MG34/42 sling, note name as an MG34 sling will not fit the pistol grip attachment point of a 42. I have measure the unstretched length of the strap, that would appear to have been on the outside during carry, as I think that would be more true to t...

Re: MG34 Sling correct?

It is post war, Yugo, MG42 sling deceivingly decorated with fake German markings! Nothing to do with WW2. The main giveaway is the snap hook for the barrel jacket and the use of an adjuster buckle rather than the German fixed length, split strap with padded out hand grip sections.

Re: German buttstock?

Note how it doesn't have the nice, swept back, flowing lines of a German stock. Instead it has that sort of front to back squashed look as though someone has put the stock in a vice e.g. the shoulder hook part is near as damn it in line with the lower corner of the stock. Other indicators would be t...
