Well, I wondered if anyone ever read any of those measurements I took.... I guess it took a few days for it to take off. OK, bright lights, and a magnifying glass. Here we go: I have no doubts that the can was made on a hydraulic press from a slug of steel covered in graphite to keep it from splitti...

For all practical purposes, the MG-42 can looks just like the one on ebay for the MG-34. Dimensions are for the MG-42 can: weight is 300 grams (with lid) or about 10.5 ounces, heavy steel construction, blued inside and out overall height (without lid) is 4.73". with lid screwed on tight overall heig...

Bolt bounce can destroy a FA receiver, but because the SA fires from a closed bolt (as required by ATF), bolt bounce does not apply to a semi. For the purist, there is/may be bolt bounce with a SA, but we're talking the effects of reality here, not theory.

FYI The tall guy who is at Knob Creek is the owner. Ask him where the kit came from. He's made several buying trips overseas. An email to him should do it. His email address is on his website - his name is Greg.

when asking someone to sell you extractors, be sure to tell them which type you're looking for. There are square ones and round ones. They don't interchange. Wartime was square, post war could be either type. Recent production is round. It all depends on your bolt head.

Abwehr - the days of the $400 tripod????? I got mine with optics and light box, new in the aluminum foiled sealed bag for $300. Then I paid $70 for a manual and started learning how to translate. I've only used my Lafette for the MG42, but with all the adaptations that everyone is coming up with, I'...

This tripod is the reason I started translating German manuals, and was the subject of the very first manual I tranlsated. A great piece of hardware. Even considering that the price is a couple hundred more than they used to be, it's still a deal.

I run my C and R MG 42 in .308 most of the time and never had a problem with the original 8mm recuperator in it. It runs a little slower in .308 than in 8mm, but I think that's more the ammo than anything else. I put in the .308 nozzle and barrel, change feed tray and top cover, and it runs fine whe...

It seems that a lot of people on Manion's don't know what they have, what it's used for, or what it's worth. I registered there months ago and never saw anything worth bidding on.... lots of overpriced junk, and a few oddities that were ridiculously priced. "But I was told it was really rare" seems ...

The problem with steel cases is that they rust from the inside, so you don't know if you have a bad one till it blows up in your gun (face). I always suggest rethinking the wisdom of running 8 cents a shot ammo through a several thousand dollar gun.... I wouldn't buy a Mercedes and try to run it on ...

I saw an MG42 soaking can at Knob Creek.... asking price was $250, but I don't think it sold. I have an MG42 can, an MG34 can, and an MG08/15 can, but nothing for the MG15, so I can't help on that. I can measure the 42 can if that will help.

Steyr has a manufacturing plant in the U.S. now, so if they wanted to, they just need to make the barrels and/or extensions here to be legal. I'm sure the deciding factor will be whether it's profitable or not. If you build it, they will come. uh, I heard that somewhere, but I'm talking about MG42s ...

One way to test the recuperator springs is to take off the booster and put the gun on the barrel bushing, nose down. The recuperator springs should be strong enough to support the weight of the entire gun. If you push down, it should spring back freely and quickly. The barrel needs to recoil to have...

the recuperator is bolted in, the charging handle has to be pushed forward manually after cocking the bolt.

sounds like you need a book with exploded diagrams to see how everything goes together.... :)

Mine was brought back after the war. It was in the basement of a Berlin police department, and the guy was allowed to buy it from the Chief, so long as he didn't get the bolt. The bolt is the "gun" in Germany, much the same as a lower receiver for an AR15 is here. Mine even has the original grease i...
