Re: MG42/M53 canvas action cover mystery
When the gun is being transported or stored action covers help prevent snow rain and dust from entering the action...same as muzzle caps. But rain will soak the canvas, also snow will melt and soak the canvas wet and you don't want wet fabric against metal. In Yugo service manual it says that durin...

MG42/M53 canvas action cover mystery
I did use search and can't find a thread on real purpose of action cover for the MG? Yugoslav M53 manual shows the picture of it but does not say what the real reason for use is. But it details what everything in the gunner's pouch does. It wraps around the rear section, and it supposed to prevent w...

Update, cause was old over-pressured Yugo 50s ammunition. With new chrome line barrel it took more pressure to get the projectile trough so pressure was increased, this resulted in over-pressuring the brass case and case getting sticky in the seat when the seat got hot and would result in fail to ej...

Re: MG blew up in my face! Need help
I am asking for measurements, if you can measure your good working Yugo barrel that will help me a lot. There is a reason why this forum is kind of dead, people get told to use search all the time then why even bother posting anything anymore, everything has been discussed. When I was training with ...

Can anybody give me this measurement of your Yugo barrel?

Re: MG blew up in my face! Need help
As I too have said before, messerschmittfan is absolutely correct. This problems is caused by the back of the chamber being drilled out and missing. I am not talking about MG3 barrel anymore, I am talking about my green mountain 8mm barrel that has identical chamber to my original Yugo, so that is ...

Re: MG blew up in my face! Need help
You're shooting a rimless cartridge, and measuring headspace with the rimmed cartridge method. It doesn't work that way. Really? You are treating me as a noob but you forgot that I joined this forum only one year after you. So I have been around. I have successfully built and headspaced two Yugo M7...

Re: MG blew up in my face! Need help
If it's too much trouble for you to look for it when you're the one who wants the information, then it's too much trouble for me to find it for you. I don't care to read a bunch of stuff about headspace just to be able to find what YOU want, when you won't do it for yourself. I did search, but unde...

Can't find anything about headspace, bunch of worthless threads come up. Can you please do the same check I did and report here?jbaum wrote: I wrote a detailed explanation of properly checking headspace on the 42 on here years ago. Do a search.

Re: MG blew up in my face! Need help
On my 8mm green mountain barrel, checking headspace visually. I removed the extractor and with bolt facing down on the barrel I get no visual clearance with rollers fully locked up, when I turn the barrel around now bolt hangs down there is a 0.5mm gap and I can see the light, rollers are still lock...

Only bad 8mm ammo out there is 80s Yugo brass?Sw1ngK1ng wrote:[
Mine ended up about 1/4 in. short and functions flawlessly. Was having issues until I changed to good ammo. Shorter will likely only require less gas presser to operate, not that one should stray from proven blueprints.

Re: MG blew up in my face! Need help
I was talking about the recuperator's head vs recuperator tube, (the recup itself) not the barrel and its relation to the recuperator. I was talking about recup head vs recup tube. Booth of mine do compress to the end, it will appear that it stops about 5mm to the end but if I put my whole weight b...

Re: MG blew up in my face! Need help
8mm shells look near ready to blow. Did you check headspace? I checked it face of the bolt to the barrel has 0.5mm clearance with rollers fully locked, the same as my old yugo. If headspace was bad then it would show on first 10 rounds? Do you have automotive feeler gauges? Can you take your best b...

Re: MG blew up in my face! Need help
That sounds about right...recups of all types including the MG3, the head does not fully compress flush with the tube. The question on them always is if the spring rate is still in spec. According to the manual it should be flush and barrel should be stopped by the cam and not the recuperator. http...

Also I got two recuperators, both Yugo and they don't compress flush, the plunger stops with about 5mm still to go.Der Alder wrote:My advise is to use surplus barrels and check them for head space.
Glad you are OK BTW.

Re: MG blew up in my face! Need help
messerschmittfan is absolutely correct. With that much of the chamber missing, I'm surprised the first three shots didn't blow too. Looks like that barrel is scrap. Where did you get it? At the gun show. The cut seems to be factory, have you ever seen mg3 barrel like that? What is your opinion on m...

MG blew up in my face! Need help
I bought all of the parts to get my M53 semi shooting 308. I also bought some new german 7.62 ammo. 3 rounds barely held the pressure and 4th one blew up, blew open the breech door and busted out extractor from the bolt, I felt the pressure against my face, good that I wear protection. Now what is g...

Re: Pricing of semi MG/M53 now in 2017?
I'm only stating what nozzles I've got in the 1/2 dozen or so Yugo kits I've bought over the years, plus many nozzles and parts I've bought separately. . thanks for the information. Can you post a photo of your Yugo springs. I want to count the coils. Have you seen different size barrel bushings fo...
