Re: Receivers from BRP

Okay I'm throwing this out to all the membership and anyone bored enough to read this. Der Alder has been kind enough to coach me on the receiver and shroud fitment, but I would like to hear from others out there as to how you were able to get the two major components squared up and straight. From m...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Moving forward, I tacked the front portion of the shell to the shroud, and began to fit the rear stub. checking overall length.jpeg I wanted to make sure the overall length was still within specs. Length check.jpeg Sorry about the upside down photo and glare, but at this point I'm 1/16 over. After f...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Well I got the shells welded, and the welds ground down and it's looking good. The ends of the receiver weren't smoothed out as much as the rest of the receiver, as the camming area is excess, and the end will be cut off and replaced by the receiver end stub I purchased from RTG, as one of DerAlder's...

Re: Receivers from BRP

The receiver shells are welded and ready to be cut to length. I've been tinkering with the ratchet plate, and after purchasing one from Wiselite with the slot cut, I used it as a template to cut the slot on the one from Global. I git the slot cut using Der Alder's trick of stacking Demel cut off whe...

Re: Receivers from BRP

And I'm still trying to make progress. I got the shroud squared up, and the receiver shells tacked together. I had to split them apart and use the belt sander on them to narrow them a bit. The shells as delivered were 2.235" wide, while the specs call for them to be 2.20". I touched them up and got ...

Re: New Build Completed

Looks good! I know what you mean, I'm doing my first build and I couldn't have gotten this far without the help of the membership here, especially Der Alder. Without his coaching I would be lost. Congrats on the new build.

Re: Receivers from BRP

Thanks Der Alder, my next step will be to work on the charging handle. Did I miss something in the other builds I've read on line? I had no idea the charging handle rod was too wide for our builds, so how much does it need to be narrowed? And sounding like a noob, why is this? Why does the piece nee...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Okay I know it's not much progress but I did finally make my first cut on the receiver. As Der Alder suggested, I made the charging handle cut before welding the receiver shells together. 20151105_150504.jpeg I also tried placing the charging handle into place, but the cuts haven't been made to the ...

Re: Receivers from BRP

I'm hoping to be able to use the MG 53 stock, as I've already begun refinishing the wooden stock. Didn't I see in one of the older posts/builds that another builder had the problem of the Yugo buffer not wanting to fit, and he turned the buffer down a bit to get it fitting correctly?

Re: Receivers from BRP

Der Alder, I really think we need you to add numbers - even rough ones - to the weld/no weld layouts. And the same for the cocking handle cut out. I've already purchased the manuals from John, so if you could do page references where ever applicable it will really help a novice like me understand th...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Der Alder, Thanks so much for the layout for "weld" and "don't weld". I see the raised area's on the bottom of the shells are being welded together.. I thought most of that would be cutout for the grip stick? Or is it just for support thru the cutting process until the opening for the ejection port ...

Re: Receivers from BRP

So I've been busy at home. The torch cut on the front of the shroud was a bit deep, and after cleaning up and leveling it's left me a bit short. shroud nose.jpeg I discussed this idea with DerAlder, who has been of great help to me with this project. I came up with the idea of using some very tough ...

Re: Receivers from BRP

I'm in complete agreement with you on the BRP bolts. That's why I knew it was good news to learn Brian at BRP was in the process of making new second gen bolts. Several other members had said they would like to purchase them once they were back in stock. As I had said earlier, I'm working on getting...

Re: Receivers from BRP

When you're welding the the shroud and receiver together do you get much weld flow into the inside of the chassis or body of the gun? I can see where this would be a problem, not much room to get a grinder inside there. I'll be working on the front piece this week and post some pictures so you can s...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Wow thanks so much. You pretty much answered my questions on the nose piece and how it would fit in place. The measurements in millimeters throws me off, as everything I have is inch pattern. I'll have to do some conversions because my pee brain won't comprehend otherwise. Thanks for the shots of yo...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Okay here are some pictures of my limited progress. As you can see the rear isn't quite square, but it's on a towel so its a bit worse in the picture. It's really about.050" off. And the nose shows the torch cut areas. As I said, it appears to be fairly level when sitting on a flat surface. 20151019...

Re: Receivers from BRP

This is an open request to all members. I've been reviewing all of the posted builds by other members, and have learned enough to know I need to learn more. I've been unable to reach DerAlder, and I want to move ahead with my shroud, but want to be sure that I'm doing this correctly. The front piece...

Re: Receivers from BRP

I know I should have taken before and after shots, but I did take my first step toward my build. I cleaned up the front of the shroud, where the torch was used to cut the nose piece off. Someone got a little over zealous and cut a bit into the shroud, but I think the area will be covered by weld onc...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Well Der Alder I finally was able to pickup a few new parts. I got the front piece for the shroud, the used one as you recommended. I also sprung for the DELUXE .308 conversion (ha,ha ha). It had so many good parts, and with the cost of the 8mm barrels at $300 it really was a deal. If the cost of th...
