Ahhhh, after reading your more throrough explanation, I understand how I misinterpreted the meaning in your previous message. It's nice to read detailed, well written explanations such as you provided. I think it would be interesting to see how the heavy bolt changes the perceived recoil in the 42. ...

panaceabeachbum, you really lost me on your message above this one. because of the delay in the opening of the bolt until the bolt/barrel combination has moved rearward and the barrel is stopped, the recoil for either gun is the same for single fire. Recoil is generated immediately after the firing ...

remember, that $900 wasn't the price it went for, that only what some nut was trying to get. It's like offering a C&R MG42 for $75,000. it's not worth that, but if someone would give me that much, I'd take it and go buy two more. I saw an original manual sell for $296 today. I gave $38 for mine. som...

Once again I find it hard to believe how someone would own a $40,000 gun and blow it up because he had to save ten cents on ammo....

I could see an easy $30,000 without having any of the above questions answered. The right answers would mean more. I've turned down $45,000 for the one I have, so this isn't just a wild figure I'm throwing out.

The heavy bolt slows the rate of fire. That's the only function that's different from a normal weight bolt. I think there are several bolt weights actually. The two things that control the rate of fire are the bolt weight and the nozzle hole size. With a heavier bolt and a larger hole in the muzzle ...

I have a translated German manual done for the RPD. MG34.com (Allegheny Arsenal) sells it. I didn't see it on their website last time I looked around, but they have it.

They don't load .308, they aren't that heavy, and the cheapest one I've seen sell in the last year was around $300. They're not common to find, so as far as being collectible as an investment, it would be good if the price is reasonable to start with.

The cocking handle does not rub the bumps on what you guys call the ratchet plate. The lever which raises when the handle pivots doesn't contact the bumps either. Considering that nothing comes in contact with the bumps, I don't know how it got the term ratchet plate, but if we all agree to call it ...

I just used a calipers on an 8mm shell, and a 7.62x51, and the 8mm shell is smaller in diameter than the 7.62 shell.... I'm no machinist, but isn't it pretty tough to mill out the chamber and make it longer but smaller in diameter? .... am I missing something?

It isn't possible to beat the original MG34 Lafette tripod for mounting an MG34. The barrel can be changed while the gun is still mounted, since the front mount for th gun is hinged on the same axis as the hinge pin of the receiver. For those who aren't MG34 gurus, the barrel jacket on an MG34 is hi...
