Re: MG Shroud part what is it?

Not much there to give any idea of size. Could be for an MG15, MG81, MG131........just about anything they used in the air or it could be for some tank or armored vehicle. With a Waffen Amt proof it is not likely Luftwaffe as they had their own procurement system and proofs. Good luck finding out an...

Re: Newbie with a mg53 kit from apex

You might have more luck finding bits and pieces as well as info if you look for the right model. The MG53 is a Colt commercial variation of the 50 BMG M2. The yugoslavian copy of the MG42 is an M53. Even though a lot of guys can't tell the difference you'll find more with the right model than you d...

Re: i am thinking about making a 7.62x54r m53

I'm not sure why you don't understand the headspace gauge for a rimmed cartridge. It does measure the distance between the boltface and the case head with the bolt locked. The no-go guage will hopefully prevent the bolt from locking due to the inability to close completely. Headspace is the distance...

Re: .308 Loader Issues

First thing is that the belt is not right.....you can't load them with the MG3 loader. That belt is actually for the MG74 to the best of my knowledge....it is not DM1. It is made from individual links interleaved. DM1 links are held together with little spring looking joiners. They'll run in the 42 ...

Re: MG42 Cyclic rate question

Real life rates on the MG42 vary from about 1100 to 1300 in 8mm and around 1000 to 1250 or so in 308. As noted the springs can affect the rate but not as much as you'd think. They can slow it down when they get weak but new strong springs won't necessarily speed things back up. The recuperator sprin...

Re: What markings do i put on arter reweld

A I have found that it makes life a bit easier when I add the semi-automatic on the receiver as well. A well meaning Police Officer seeing a MG 42 in the car and wanting to see the orange stamp on the title II form was pacified when he read the semi-automatic MG42 on the receiver. Harry Having neve...

Re: What is this part?

The top piece is the lifting arm for the MG08-MG08/15 lock. There are two on each lock and they lift the extractor as the lock moves forward and the arm comes up to lock it. The one you have pictured is the left side. Not a common piece to find on its own and not one that breaks often so value is lo...

Re: URGENT:remove blue on Reblued MG s

The basic answer to your original question is a resounding no. You cannot remove bluing to uncover the blue underneath....because its not there. As someone else noted the bluing is actually oxidation of the metal. You can't deoxidize the surface to reveal an oxide layer because if you remove the oxi...

Re: FG 42 late war photo

His hand looks pretty well clear to me and the spring doesn't have enough poop to do much damage if it did hit his hand. Probably won't fire either with the handle being dragged along. There is no lower receiver on the MG34 and the selector is the trigger not a switch. Pull the top for semi and the ...

Re: Late war mg42

I don't see any fake parts on there......what do you mean by fake? What is an i sight? There may be some post war parts but its not always easy to tell. Unless they are marked with the later part numbers used by the west German army its not always easy to tell. The fact that the Bundeswehr used wart...

Re: Full auto and the law

One additional detail here to add to Johns post: You don't buy a tax stamp for anything. People think they can buy a stamp to make something legal and its not how it works. You pay for the transfer tax or the making tax on an NFA (national firearms act) firearm and the stamp is affixed to the paperw...

You might contact Ohio Ordnance works about the lafette straps. They have a set for sale. Talk to Alex the showguy, he should know where they are (in the show stuff). 440 285 3481 tell him Frank sent you and that I saw them when we packed up at the creek. I don't know what the price was.

Re: MG42/MG3 dual mount value

Does anyone know what an early Bundeswehr (West German Army) complete dual mount with cover and tool kit is worth? It also includes the large stabilizer legs that are normally missing. Thanks Harry The last one I saw sold was about a year ago and had been advertised for some time at $1200. It ended...

Is this the Vickers belt you were referring to? http://www.ima-usa.com/british-ww2-vickers-mk-iv-ammunition-belt.html Nope, thats not the ones. Those are called Stripless belts and were intended to be throwaways. They came preloaded in steel cans with the lids soldered on and once you used them you...

Re: Roll your own barrel

Anyone ever try to turn their own barrels on a lathe from blanks? I'm wondering if a fluted barrel would help with cooling and save on weight? I've turned a lot of barrels from blanks including a couple MG42 barrels. What you find is that you cannot buy blanks that were intended for use with machin...

Re: MG 42 cone muzzle break with extra fin

The holes around the barrel bushing crimp were put there to relieve stress at the ends of the slots where the punch press crimped the steel of the receiver around the barrel bushing. It was thought that this would prevent stress risers that would create cracks in the receiver. While it was a good tr...

Wow. Holy crap. I was figuring they would be worth a good coin but hadn't quite imagined that. I'm more blown away that one can't find any 7.62 loaders except for maybe on GB where they get crazy money too when they used to apparently be given away with purchase of bulk ammo or sold for less than i...

Re: gfv-64 East German belt loader.

There were a pretty good number of them here in the states. Ohio Ord imported a bunch of them and I think Tennessee gun did too. From what I understand there aren't any more in east germany since they scrapped all that stuff or sold it to us silly yanks. I sold my last one a few years back and it wa...

Re: Need belt for MG08/15

Look for vickers belts, they are out there. You'll likely have to post a want to buy ad on one of the machinegun boardsl like Sturmgewehr.com , Subguns.com, or gunboards.com. The vickers belts were originally made for .303 but 8mm will work in them too. You need to stretch the belts a bit by loading...

Re: Single Saw Cut 1944 MG42

The "winning" bidder is the only bidder. All the bids are his and it looks like he started at the bottom and kept going til he hit the reserve. Maybe its a new way to run guns. Give a chop and sell them.....
