Nice work with the build 'USMC 8488"
"CessnaPilot89" you should pick one up, the prices will not likely be that good again, granted they have fluctuated over the years for the M53 kits, but at this juncture, unless lucky in the classifieds, you will not find a better deal.

Re: Another Cosby Mystery-Weak primer Strikes
RichardS, I AM MUCH OBLIGED, for your guidance and help. Really quick, yes I delicately removed the bolt after the clay test, however I should have noted that with a free-floating firing pin on Pirate's bolt it would retreat w/o any further insertion to the clay. The firing pin on the bolt slides sm...

Re: Another Cosby Mystery-Weak primer Strikes
Okay had a chance with an afternoon off to try a few things with this project, ground a few spots that may have been problem areas until being absolutely sure that NOTHING could impede the hammer from hitting the striker: 1) Headspace with barrel in gun is good, checked with a no-go, go, and field, ...

Re: Notes on the 08 German Maxim Gun
Mark, I look at it like this, I am a big fan of British culture especially their metal (Iron Maiden, Venom, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, etc..) and you are a cool cat, but the Germans have been able to be chemotherapy for a Western European culture that had overrun the rest of the world on a quest f...

Re: Notes on the 08 German Maxim Gun
Well Frank good point, that era is so darn sketchy regarding our civil rights (especially the 1st Amendment) let alone the conspiracy of the international interests to get the USA into the war. As a historian, I look at everything with a jaundice eye, "The Illusion of Victory" by Dr. Thomas Fleming ...

Re: Bluing or painting M53
Welcome to the forum and a great hobby :D Everyone has opinions, I like the duracoat line. Nothing looks as nice as hot blue, I never experimented with rust bluing over weld but carding the inside of the receiver would not be fun, a strong durable option is duracoat. Beer, dirt, blood, it all beads ...

Re: Notes on the 08 German Maxim Gun
Interesting book, notice the date April 1917, the US "officially" entered the Great War on April 6, 1917 (Good Friday that year) yet within that month we have a book out for the military describing our new enemy's machine gun. Goes along with the hundreds of scholarly articles showing president Wils...

Re: Another Cosby Mystery-Weak primer Strikes
Thanks Richard, I have plenty here to work with. First my gun is in storage far away from me, it works well, Pirate did the internal work, a 3-cut that went together like a charm. Second this is another kettle of fish, it was a four-cut 1944 receiver. The head space was checked out of the gun and yo...

Re: Firing from the shoulder
I still cannot wrap my head around the idea of German troops firing the 08/15 while standing, yes it has a grip, but that must be awkward when filled with water, a drum mag, and that exposed recoil knob slamming back and forth.
I gather in war when it is life and death, you man up, or get cut down.

Another Cosby Mystery-Weak primer Strikes
This issue is persisting here is a review of the background from my previous post: Here is the problem, extremely weak (almost non-existent-weak) primer strikes on an SA Mg42. The hammer is hitting the striker straight-on in the sweet spot, the bolt slides up and down the rails when the recoil sprin...

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This thread still has a great amount of useful troubleshooting for others who may not be as "lucky" as a bent pressure plate.

Re: 80% Philadelphia Ordnance Receiver
Funny how topics re-emerge, that is turning the Phil 80% into a working receiver. This was covered 8 years ago or so, and yes the broaching equipment and other tools would be more expensive then just buying the receiver parts at IMA (if they sold out, they still turn up on GB) and welding them toget...

Re: MG15 with wood? Any pics?
Were those wooden action covers any weaker than the bakelite or prone to breakage? I would not want to be a gunner in an HE-111 or DO-17 at altitude worrying about the elements wearing on the wood (heat from friction of bolt/charging handle vs. cold air), then again I should presume German engineers...

VERY NICE kit, Congrats, too bad the receiver de-mill was not a more friendly cut to the front, however with spare pieces, a jig, some cold beer and a hot TIG welder all can be forgiven

Re: Dash Cams
If you do a lot of driving on major highways it seems like a neat idea, people drive like F-n idiots these days, of course it would be nice if they took their eyes off their smart phone for longer than a few seconds to actual drive. Then DA's rocket launchers would come in handy when some texting je...

Re: MG 08 FROM BATTLEFIELD
Now that is art, I find your Mg08 far more beautiful than any Impressionist painting. Even with its damage, it only adds to the piece, especially as we are closing in on the 100th anniversary of opening day, August 4, 1914 of military action.
