Re: Another Cosby Mystery-Weak primer Strikes
I agree about the hammer angle issue. The hammer should be 90 degrees with respect to the striker axis with the firing pin fully extended. Anything other than that means less impact force. You are right in saying there are many other factors. The gun should be analyzed for each and every factor and ...

Re: Another Cosby Mystery-Weak primer Strikes
Despite the incredibly crappy etch-a-sketch MS FingerPaint drawing  , we do understand what's going on with your hammer/striker situation. If the striker in this gun design is able to rotate, then slightly rounding off the edge of the end of the striker will allow the hammer to hit the very cen...

Re: Another Cosby Mystery-Weak primer Strikes
As a variation to what Blanksguy said regarding using clay as an indicator of firing pin protrusion, you may try this, since clay is very soft. Take an unfired 8mm shell casing which has no primer. Fill the primer pocket with melted candle wax, which is a tad harder than clay, and shave the excess f...

Re: Top cover opening after firing on M53
The latch may not be fully engaging. M53 top covers vary in length compared to German ones. Sometimes you can't even get a swapped out top cover on. They are NOT truly interchangeable because of wild tolerances. If you get one that fits, you're lucky. If the cover is a bit short, perhaps your latch ...

Re: Odd belt w/ starter
Many reenactors don't use the starter tabs at all, just like the German soldiers did, because the starter tab can get stuck in the feed mechanism and break off the first link in the belt even if it does not cause a jam. Fishing the end of the feed tab under the feed cover is a pain you can do withou...

Re: WTS: Demillled MG42 Saw-cut complete receiver $1000 now
If the receiver was in question for ANY reason, DoctorCheney223 should have asked for better pictures prior to purchasing. Hopefully he did his homework. No one I am aware of on this board is looking to buy dubious or illegal parts or firearms. Hopefully the seller will be straight up and either fin...

You can try really hard, but you can't own them all. I have only a few items, but at least they are the ones I've always dreamed of. It's easy to take on too many projects, and then they all become unfinished.

Re: Well...be honest...i can take it
Regardless of condition versus price, are you happy with the rifle you bought? To many "expert gun collectors" are totally focused on making money off their collections. Most of those guys are on other gun forums, but few "collectors only" are here. The guys here shoot their guns and play with them....

Re: M53 vs MG3 camming piece
I fitted a Bundeswehr MG-3 camming piece to my MG-42 before I sold it, and it worked perfectly. I won't guarantee that mixing German and Yugo parts will work. There are tolerance differences in in many parts between the two countries. That may or may not apply to the camming pieces, which are more p...
