Re: best oil/grease for maintaining mg's

Whether you use grease or a good lubricating oil, be sure to clean all the oil, powder residue, and other dirt from the firearm as soon as you can right after shooting, then apply fresh clean lubricant. Running dirty lubricant will cause the bluing to wear off and even steel wear, and chemically it ...

Re: MG 42 Build:Headspacing a New barrel?

The barrel screws in all the way to the shoulder. Now you will need a Go and a NoGo gauge. The field gauge will show you when the head spacing is beyond the NoGo stage into the DANGEROUS HOLY SH1T DON'T YOU FRIGGIN' PULL THAT TRIGGER stage. The headspacing is way to large, and casings may rupture an...

Re: What kind of 8mm surplus ammo is this?

John's a bit strong but he's right about the ammo you have. It's risky to use because of the the locations of where it came from, the quality. However, 1970's steel cased Romanian is still not bad for old surplus ammo. Some people use 1950's Yugoslavian despite the hard primers, because the MG-42 ca...

Motorcycle Adventures

This is what I did with my new motorcycle a few weeks ago. I got it stuck. Then I got it out again by flipping it into the cylinder head and rotating it so it faced in the direction LEAVING the swamp. This is a new to me 2003 R1150GS Adventure with 115,000 miles on it, and I bought it to USE it... a...

Re: WTB: Mp44 bolt

REASONABLE is whatever a buyer is willing to pay for it. Just sayin'... I hope you find one. Parts like that are getting more scarce each year. It's hard to anticipate what parts you might want or need ahead of time, but stockpiling earlier DOES pay off. If anyone has a spare bolt, I'm sure you'll h...

I voted Yes. For all those who think Bil will be lost among the zillions of Bills out there, he should use this as his name: BilL

Re: Is this sling period ww2?

All MG slings will have a waffenamt? I mainly collect k98k and the opposite is true, be weary of a waffenamt marked sling. I'll see if he will check. It's for my friends deactivated me, and I'd never carry my love one by a sling regardless haha. The hardware should have a waffenamt. See BergFlak's ...

Re: Is this sling period ww2?

The sling is of the correct type for an MG-34 or MG-42 but MAY be of postwar manufacture. You have to check the metal clip that attaches to the pistol grip and look for a Waffenamt marking, which is an eagle with a three digit number code underneath. The code corresponds to whatever factory made the...
