Re: MG3 Barrels, Bolts and Headspace
John, Thanks, Your last post got me thinking about that the problem may be with the barrel extension. This a new old stock BW Chrome lined barrel, looks like it was never fired. The barrel extension had some sharp edges from being so new. So, I took my loosest bolt head and wedge, my 7.62 gages, a G...

Re: MG3 Barrels, Bolts and Headspace
John, On the rollers, I am unclear on what you mean. I though that before when I had asked this question, you said that it would not work because the rollers don't set head space, its the roller pins? Did something change in your understanding of the impact that MG42 rollers have on headspace? I am ...

MG3 Barrels, Bolts and Headspace
Well, I found another new surplus BW chrome lined MG3 7.62 barrel for $100 at a gun show. They seem to be out there. I also got a good deal on 4 Yugo bolts. That makes 5 total 7.62 barrels and 12 bolts, 2 WW2 (that I will not shoot), 0ne MG3 Bolt and the rest are M53 bolts. I noticed that the BW Chr...
Re: MG08/15
Does anyone have a link or photos of the MG08/15 ammo Cans?
I will get the drum with my gun, I have seen the drum cans, but I can not seem to find photos of the regular ammo can?
Thanks Pat

Re: Replacing locking rollers
Will replacing the rollers on an MG42 change the headspace?
I was able to tighten up the head space on my PTR91/G3 by swapping out the rollers. would this work for the MG42?
But, they make rollers in different sizes for the G3.

Re: Where to buy loose bolt head?
Update, I found an MG3 Bolt for a good price and it was still too tight in all four 7.62 barrels. So, there goes that theory. It headspaces on a couple of my 8MM Barrels, so I kept it. I am just going to have to bring my barrel and gage to a show that has a dealer with a bunch of MG42 bolts and try ...

Re: Where to buy loose bolt head?
What about shimming the barrel extension to increase chamber length or machining the barrel's shoulder shorter to decrease chamber length to make it headspace with the various bolt heads? I have an MG3 bolt on the way, maybe this bolt head will work on all or the some barrels? I really do not want ...

Re: More Dumb MG42 7.62 Headspace Questions
On barrels number one and two, it does not lock with the factory ammo that I have. However, I get good lock up with the 500 plush reloads that I sized to tight 308 specifications. I tested every single round in one barrel. So, I think that I can safely shoot these in that barrel.

Re: More Dumb MG42 7.62 Headspace Questions
"no wonder why I can't find any 7.62 barrels. People are buying up to 4 barrels for their MG. So what are the results of your test?" Well, to answer your test result question. I used white paint and labeled my 7.62 Number 1-4. On the Bolts, I just used the numbers already on them. The test using one...

More Dumb MG42 7.62 Headspace Questions
Well, I spent some time over the weekend reading the Two Volume MG42 book and the previously posted headspace instructions and I have more dumb questions. Armed with my new Forster 7.62 Go No Go gave, I tested my 4 barrels with my 5 bolts. Then, I read that one should remove the extractor prior to t...

Where to buy loose bolt head?
Well, now that I have the Gage's, I found that one of my barrels has head space that is too tight! I have five bolt heads, one bolt head is too tight for any of my barrels, may work on my 8mm? One barrel is too tight for any of my bolt heads! Now, with the G3, you can change the rollers to fix head ...

Re: Make my own headspace gage?
I have a Dillon 550B, But not 308 Dillon, dies, I need to order Dillon Dies, However, all rounds were within spec and checked using the 308 Dillon case gage. The lesson learned is that minimum 308 headspace is excessive for 7.62 NATO. Even though it Gage's, OK, for 308, you end up pushing the should...

Re: Make my own headspace gage?
Got my 7.62 NATO headspace Gage's, and tried them out. I placed the min 7.62 head space Gage in my 308 Dillon case Gage. Wow, there is a big difference between 308 and 7.62. The min 7.62 Gage sticks up above the max in the 308 case Gage. I tested all combinations of my 5 bolt heads and 4, no combo h...

Re: Make my own headspace gage?
Ok, that photo is helpful. I got one barrel from RTG, was on a waiting list. I got the other 3 from a local dealer who just happened to have them. I bought all that he had. You may look here, http://www.mg42.us/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=2501&start=20 So, in the photos, one looks like you are looking for ...

Re: Make my own headspace gage?
John, you are right as usual, I just need to buy some 7.62 gages. I was just re-reading some of your earlier posts and found the good article on the difference between .308 Winchester vs. 7.62x51mm NATO that you had provided the link for. http://how-i-did-it.org/762vs308/chamber.html "If you're read...

Make my own headspace gage?
Here is my dumb question of the week. Can I make my own Go, No Go Gages for matching up my MG42/3 Bolt heads and 7.62 Barrels? I am going to borrow a friends 7.62 GO/NO GO Gages. I have a Dillon 308 Case Gage. I would size one empty 7.62 Case to the same size as the Go Gage and one for the No Go Gag...
