Re: Different versions of a WaA markings ???
Rob, I have seen those stamps before. I have several parts in my collection with the same stamps. I would guess these are early maget markings. I know of a early 43 dated Maget gun that has those stamps on just about all the part or a WaA147. Ed Hello Ed. I agree with you. I have also been told the...

The buffer screw head has same stamp. Stamped eagle with number 11 under it. As this is a buffer from MG42 and the gun is a dated...

Can any body tell me if this is an early version of the WaA11 mark ( Maget )
The marks in question have a stamped eagle with small 11 under them.

Re: Which feed tray for my 42
I'd look carefully for grind or file marks to decide if it was an armorer conversion. More likely it was stamped that way in dies before it was bent, which would leave no grind marks. It look to perfect to of been cut and filed. all edges smooth and perfect. I tend to agree with you now that it was...

Re: Which feed tray for my 42
Is it OK for your gun? Of course it is. Beside the fact that very few people would know that there were early trays made without the belt tab, the original shooter would have tossed the early tray at the first opportunity in favor of one with the tab. The 1944 armorer's manual even shows how to add...

Thankyou for reply .Embalmer wrote:Easier to cut and fold up metal to make the belt catcher nub, rather than making another part to weld onto the tray. Id assume the welded part one for earlier guns, but dont quote me as im far from expert on them.

How early does a mg42 need to be to have a slab cocking handle fitted ? My MG is dated 1943. Is that early enough?
