I was looking at RTG guns and I noticed that you could get a yugo bolt for $90, yet the MG3 bolt heads are $220.
I will be shooting mostly 308. Is there any advantage that justifies the prices the MG3 bolt head?

Belts, 50, 150, 250..????
So, are these HK21 belts for sale with RTG the same as MG3 belts?
Has anyone used the 150 or 250? Thoughts?

Re: MG42 Spoke for first time in over 70 years today
At long last, My MG42 not only spoke,, but sang and sang. I ran almost 500 rounds throughout it flawlessly.
What an awesome piece of hardware when it runs.
The final problem was the charging handle was vibrating loose,
Thanks for all of the advice from the folks here,

Re: AA Tripod with Bum Leg
Problem solved, the lever clamp part that holds the telescoping leg has a cog wheel like nut that can be turned to tighten the tension. There is one lager hole that had what I thought was a detent button to allow one to tighten the cog wheel nut. I put my reading glasses on and discovered that it wa...

Help, I got one also with a bad leg. It is the height adjustment. One leg started slowly collapsing as I was shooting.
Anyone know how to fix it.

Re: MG42 Light Primer Strike Problem Found
Gents, no reply here, So I contacted Bob N. from Vermont. He provided some useful information on the fix to my light primer strike problem, "If you look carefully at the end of the cocking handle guide spot welded to the side of the receiver, you will see that the end is not flat. It should have a s...

MG42 Light Primer Strike Problem Found
I found that the charging handle was shaking loose causing the problem. I tried two new handles and that did not fist the problem. As a filed fix, I used some tape to hold the handle in position. The MG fired great in both in 7.62 and 8mm! Now, I need a permenant fix. I need to take a closer look at...

MG42 Brass Catcher
I just got a post war MG42 brass catcher. I have not tried it out yet. Has anyone used one of these? Do they help keep the brass from getting mashed?

Re: MG42 Spoke for first time in over 70 years today
Update, I got to the range yesterday to try various hand loads. First I wanted to confirm that the success with being able to shoot one belt of 7.62 Australian surplus was not a fluke. I fired about 20 rounds clean, then I had light primer strikes every few rounds. The only thing different was that ...

So why do I need an MG3/42 Ringmount?
I noticed that RTG has MG3 ring mounts at a good price. I am trying to think of of a good reason that I need one? Perhaps, as a Sun Roof on the Chevy Avalanche  They are just so cool, but I suspect that an AA Tripod in addition to my MG3 Laffette Tripod would be more versatile. Perhaps the me...

Re: MG42 Spoke for first time in over 70 years today
Just an update, I think that I am almost there with a running MG42. God News: I ran a 50 round belt of Austrailian 7.62 Surplus without a hitch. It sang and sounded right with good primer strikes. To get to this point, I sent the recuperator spring off to Bob Naess for rebuild. I removed the loose C...

Better MG42 Top Cover Pin?
Soemtimes I can swap out a top cover in less then a minute.
Other times, I struggle to get that top cover pin all the way in? Is there an easier to install pin? Is there a better way?
Thanks Pat

Go onto the K98K forum and look under the thread "MP44 receiver blocks. Pete is in the process of making new ones out of 4140 alloy. You needs the old cut reciever to salvage the skin. Shoot Pete an email, he can give you an update. He also has new made reciever sections for the back half. shortfals...

Re: MG42 Spoke for first time in over 70 years today
Thanks, Well I replaced the charging handle and shimmed the loose cam piece and it functioned fine until the shim came loose. I had occasional light primer strikes. I tighten up the the cam piece shim again and it worked fine again. I guess that I need to send it off to Bob for repair. What is his t...

Re: MG42 Cyclic rate question
Thanks, I will never, ever run it without a bolt stabilizer. It was just a hypothetical question. I just swapped the block on my Dillion 550B from 8x33 Kurz to 7.62. I reloaded 50 rounds using LC72 once fired brass with 42 grains of IMR 4064, CCI34 primers, topped with Winchester 147 FMJ. It is a mo...

MG42 Cyclic rate question
I know that the answer depends on a number of factors like ammunition. But, what should I get for cyclic rate when shooting a C&R MG42 in 8mm with Yugo bolt with and without bolt stabilizer? I read that it makes no difference? Also, with the same Yugo bolt, what cyclic rate should I get shooting wit...

Re: MG42 Spoke for first time in over 70 years today
That may be it, I noticed a burr on the charging handle. The bolt was dragging on the charging handle. I fixed it so that it would not drag. I need to test it.
Thanks for the help.
