Re: Receivers from BRP

Roadrunner, that's what I had thought, that the modified AR trigger is moved a bit forward. I compared it to the original trigger housing and it's as you said - a bit forward. I can probably bend the actuator forward a bit to allow it to drop into place without cutting anything. I'll do that tomorro...

Lafette to gun fittment

I have a question about the fitting of the Lafette to the MG42. I'm building my kit now, and purchased a Lafette to complete the package. I was advised to fit the rear gripstick mount to the Lafette as it's the standard for spacing the mounting points. However I installed the gripstick and tried to ...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Here's a question for the Lafette owners. I used the Lafette to set the rear mounting point for the gripstick, and the MG drops into the rear tabs and locks down on the front clamp. But when I put the gripstick into the MG and try to mount it in the Lafette, the trigger hits the actuator finger and ...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Hi Roadrunner, Here's a shot of how it worked out for me. You can see the end of the recoup tube body is sitting against the back of the buffer plate. Recoup & Buffer stop.jpeg You can also see the bolt blocker down the way. I pulled the rails out to work on the recoup mounting. Like I said earlier,...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Well I don't know what I did wrong but this is a duplicate post. I had already posted about getting the bolt blocker slot cut, and the blocker tacked in place. Then I used the Lafette to set the rear gripstick mounting position. Bolt blocker in place.jpeg After I got the hole drilled for the rear re...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Roadrunner, Thanks for the response. I guess I just hadn't planned that far ahead, as the exact location of the blocker kinda surprised me. I was thinking further back by the buffer for some reason. But after seeing yours, I can understand the cutting of the recoup to drop into the gap on the blocke...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Nothing new really, just wanted to post a couple of shots of the Lafette. I've been sidetracked with Christmans coming, but I want to get back to the MG ASAP. Left side MG53 Lafette.jpeg Right rear Lafette.jpeg I was "eye-balling" the bolt blocker, and it's appears to be directly under the mount for...

Re: Receivers from BRP

My Yugo Lafette arrived and I'm in the process of cleaning it up. I'll use it to set the rear grip mounting position, and once I get the MG finished, I'll look at really cleaning it up and refinishing it. Open for all suggestions as to type of finish and color (s?) normally used. I got the MG53 main...

Re: Receivers from BRP

I just wanted to let you both know you were right about the MG3 rails. They were about .030" thicker than the MG53 rails. I took .020 off the back side and the bolt drops thru like "BUTTER"! Thanks for the tip. So I have the recoup front bolt mounted, and the rails. The next step will be to set up t...

Re: Receivers from BRP

At this point, my rails are all the way forward and actually touch the camming piece. I think tomorrow I'll pull them out and do as you both have said and thin them a bit in the front by the camming piece. The bolt moves freely every where else. I did pry the crimp out a little bit on the recoup, an...

Re: Receivers from BRP

As I'm still waiting for the Lafette to arrive, I been trying to mount the rails inside the receiver, without much success. For the past two days I have tried to drill and align the mounting holes in the frame for the rails, and made a mess of my receiver. I'll need to weld up some of the holes afte...

Re: Receivers from BRP

So I got the recoup cut down and wanted to get it mounted in the receiver but as shipped the front mounting bolt wasn't installed. No big deal, right? Wrong. I can't keep the bolt in place with the crimp that is on the tube of the recoup, along with the bevel on the bolt itself. i tried the mounting...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Hi Roadrunner, Thanks for the feedback. My gut was telling to get the rails as close as possible, as a gap might cause problems with the bolt moving at the speeds that even a semi-automatic will move at. Yes, I'm using new undrilled rails from BRP, but I did use my old rails as a template to drill a...

Re: Receivers from BRP

While I'm waiting for my Lafette to arrive. I thought I would start working on the receiver rails and recuperator. So an open question to the masses, whem the rails are installed, do they go so far forward in the receiver as to touch the camming piece, or is there a small gap left between them? I've...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Yes you are correct in that I don't have a bolt carrier yet. I have been in contact with Brian at BRP inquiring as to if he might have an ETA on his second gen bolts, but he's not sure. He was also kind enough to offer advice on the trigger group fitting. I had spoken to Der Alder about this, and he...

Re: Receivers from BRP

As I was laying out the bottom cut lines for the trigger and ejection port openings I had a thought. The BRP blueprints I'm using are fairly old, I'm guessing from the time of Brian's first build and first generation trigger and bolt. As such, have there been any changes to the templates for the new...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Der Alder, I know what you mean about Deer Season. I used to work for a fellow who owned a stamping plant in Cory Pa. He HATED Thanksgiving, because the following Friday he would NEVER have enough employees to run the plant. He started giving the day off by default, because he knew he could never ge...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Small steps and plenty of them I still need to make. I differed the actual welding to a friend who has a TIG machine, my last shots were of the shroud and receiver tacked together using my MIG. After the receiver and shroud were welded, I cleaned up the welds. Left side.jpeg Ratchet plate side.jpeg ...

Re: MG42 Spoke for first time in over 70 years today

Congratulations on the trial run. Others much more knowledgeable than I will be along soon to advise you, but I've read your other posts and am green with envy. A real MG42, really? As someone else said, it don't get no better than this.
