Re: New m53 build

I agree, BRP provides an invalable service for hobbyist builders. Without recources like his we would have to fab a whole lot more stuff or just be left scratching our heads. Actually I was just looking at his bolt mod. parts and I checked his print page. Lo and behold,Tasty new graphic diagrams wit...

Re: New m53 build

You know, lengths has been my only hangup with this build. I feel pretty lame for not finding the other reference to the 8.310" dim. sooner. BRP might consider changing their prints at least so side and bottom views share the same numbers. Even so, my fault. Was planning on skim milling the rear aft...

Re: New m53 build

I think I've got a handle on these dimensions now. When I milled out the c/h opening. I used the brp side view prints. Reached 8.110" on my mills dro and hadn't event reached the edge yet. Had to go to 8.325" before it cleaned up. This made me think I had too much length on the rear. Not even. 10.4"...

Re: New m53 build

Hey Crash, Enjoy your time in Austria. Wish I had some trips across the pond but mainly just an occasional trip to Pearl or Norfolk :puk: . Did I start this post by saying not too challenging ? These length discrepancies are driving me nuts. Bend profiles on these stampings do not jive with the BRP ...

Re: New m53 build

Finally got back on my project today. Setup and milled charging handle groove and opening. Still have to mill ratchet plate and charging handle. Cant find my 3/32 woodruff key cutter. :? C/H is bent slightly so needs adjustment but alignment looks good. Decided to do this before welding halves. Glad...

Re: New Guy Question

Dont know if your still wondering but .154" small pin is standard on ar's. Only Colt did large pin out of political correctness. Cant imagine any gripstick conversions are setup on large pin. RR

Re: Gripstick I.D.

Thanks, Thats great, I am going with an mg3 theme on this build. Barrel, booster/flash hider, rear sight, topcover, drum. So this will help tie it together. Yugo grip has a more rounded triggerguard which I dont care for. Thanks again Waffen. RR :D

Gripstick I.D.

Hey guys. Was wondering if anyone could identify the gripstick on the left. It has no numbers only a shield stamped on the upper left. Also undressed welds around its perimeter. The one on right is obviously yugo with tons of numbers. Nice blue and completely dressed perimeter welds. Just dont want ...

Re: New m53 build

Well, after lots of thought made the decision to cut shroud and insert bushing. I know some dont like this method but I think it has lots of merit for its alignment and control of setting bushing depth. I am confident in my tig abilitys and can make it dissappear easily. Will cut back the reduced ar...

Re: Barrel stop/barrel/recoup location

Wow! Crash, even more to consider. I am planning on going .308 on my build too. 8mm is non existent in Alaska. Even if I could find good surplus ammo. Freight and hazmat fee would bring me right up to commercial prices. Now I think I better get a .308 barrel before I set by bushing off my 8mm barrel...

Re: Rail length

Oh yeah, Jbaum has a good point. I used a toolsteel bit and my depth mic. Even so .080" is a buttload to overlook.
Any angle off parallel will result in cosine error, so try to minimize it.

Re: Rail length

crash, heres some more numbers for you. My two new rails measure 2.307" and 2.305". My two old yugo rails measure 2.219" and 2.250". Furthermore, I dont think they match my gun due to them both being right side items. It appears to me as these are individually fitted items. Love to here more cause I...

Re: New m53 build

Crash, Heres the measurements. Close as I can get with my mitutoyo calipers. Using edge of cam window to holes edge then adding radius. Hope it helps. Hey Waffendude. thanks for the welcome. Yeah my threads were cut some. Already removed bushing. kept all of the reduced shroud diameter intact. Might...

Re: New m53 build

Thanks Crash for the reply. I've been leaning the same way. Save as much shroud as possible. I'll document all the measurements as I go and share it all. Today I picked up my BRP rear section, rails etc. and like Tinkerbell was a bit dissapointed that the ratchet plate was already spot welded on. let...
