Youngstown, huh? then he would know where I live, in Lisbon. I go to Youngstown all the time - I have some customers there. Small world. When I was in Switzerland once, I met someone from 10 miles away from where I live. Sounds like you need a nice desert climate. Arizona is gun-friendly.

cans
That would depend on who made the cans. Yugo cans aren't waffenamt'd, but are made to fit 8mm. Cans can be found for $20 that fit 8mm, and considering the $10 difference between those and .308 cans, it's worth it if you're going to shoot .308. I'd suggest a couple 8mm German cans, then several .308 ...

1919gunner - you think ammo is bad? Try buying the original manuals to translate... I have one that I paid $275 for... I'm waiting for 8 manuals to come in the mail from Germany right now, and I haven't had my MG42 out since September. Talk about screwed up priorities. Rain is forecast till Sunday, ...

Myrvang's book
I have Myrvang's book and agree with you... it's more like an MG34 book, with a little MG42 stuff added in to fill it up. I may be a little biased here, but the H.Dv. 216/6 MG42 manual available from http://www.GermanManuals.com explains the functions of all the parts of an MG42 in detail. It explai...

the recuperator. . .
The barrel and bolt recoil together for about 8 millimeters, then the bolt rollers hit the cams, forcing them inwards. While the initial 8mm of recoil is occurring, the recuiperator is being compressed by the barrel extension. As soon as the bolt rollers are shoved toward the center, the bolt unlock...

Joining the belts is what I suggested a few posts ago. Set up several 15 round belts, then link them together to make one as long as you want (provided that doing so is politically correct in your state). I've used several different types / dates / manuafacturers / countries belts through my MG42......

50 round belts for the MG42...$7 MG34.com They have starter tabs for $7 too. They'll be at Knob Creek... I'll be at the next table towards the end of the row. I think I've seen them for $6, but I don't have a clue where that was anymore. I have many more than I'll ever need, so I don't shop to buy, ...

belts
well, considering how cheap MG42 belts are ($7 each), and how many times they can be used (like, forever), I didn't think cutting up belts was such a bad idea. And getting belts into NJ that were 15 rounds long would be simple.... I know lots of people with tin snips that would cut them up. Buying a...

belts vs. links
The links would work for 8mm if they were tight enough...but you would need the feed pawls from the MG3. They're made for M60 links instead of the 50 round belts. The feed pawls are what pulls the belt across the feed tray. I can't say I've ever tried what you're trying to do.... I have the required...

according to the manual, the booster cone size....
According to page 15 of the H.Dv. 216/6 manual, the recoil nozzle size for 8mm Mauser is 14mm, but the 11.5mm nozzle can be used to increase the rate of fire. For 7.62 x 51mm (.308), only the 11mm nozzle is to be used. I can't say that doing anything else will or won't work, or is or isn't dangerous...
