Now don't be bad-mouthing CS! I've been his customer for 3+ years now and have never had issues, nor have I heard of others having issues. Yes, he is a small shop. I think it is a 1-person operation but don't know for certain. Yes, he does take time to reply to emails/inquiries. Yes, you must wait 4...

Personally I've heard the sky is falling too many times in the past 2-3 years to be scared of ammo shortages/disappearances. However there is always the chance that one day people will stop manufacturing ammo. But until that day, there will always be surplus ammo *somewhere* to purchase. And since t...

Ejector problem and a question
Time spent at the range yesterday was very productive. I have eliminated light primer strikes by cutting more from the bottom front of the hammer notch in the bolt extension. I removed another 1/16†and suddenly I have 100% ignition. :) It appears that I am still suffering an ejector problem. I’...

Any good deals for 8mm ammo?
Tax returns are on the horizon and I'm wanting to buy some more. Unfortunately the places I'd normally look for the cheap-o stuff are all out. It seems the surplus Yugo is the best deal right now - '50's era so I'm not sure how good it would fire in an MG vs. a bolt action. Dunno? IO still has their...

The only place I've seen them are the IMA-USA relic website. It reminded me of one of those bean bag ash trays. Remember those? :) Quite simple if you want to fabricate one for saving reloading brass at the range - simply a metal frame that replaces the ejection door, and a bag hanging underneath. I...

Yes it would seem "roll pin" is the term. I looked on McMaster-Carr's website and found that "spring pin" is how they define them: "Slotted: Also known as spring dowels, roll-tension pins, split pins, expansion pins, and c-pins. Ends are rounded for easy insertion." The slotted kind (not the coiled ...

edit - I see the pics now... looks good! Are you fastening the pin to the extension, or is it "floated" in front? I've read observations from others' pin issues, and "floated" pin setups are suspected of degrading the performance. I made my "extension" from thicker material, and it has a seat into w...

What is today's advice on surplus? I know at one time the BRP site had a whole list of "what not to shoot" and it basically said "the newer the better"... and I do recognize the mindset that says you don't feed your Sports Car a diet of economy-grade gasoline. HOWEVER... this ammunition was built to...

FWIW, I've read that if you're really in a pinch, you can use a thread tap to "grab" the shell and dislodge it. If you do this carefully enough, you won't nick the chamber, but for me, that would mean in my well-lit shop with the vise. I don't know if I'd try it on a dimly-lit bench at the gun range...

I wonder if you remove the flash hider, and put the muzzle booster against the wall. If you push directly on the buttstock, you should be able to get the barrel to move back in the cams and get the bolt to disconnect with an un-ceremonious clunk. A quick thing to check, is to be sure the barrel door...

My bolt cutter rivet squeezers work best when the material is relatively thin - about 1/4" in the AK trunion areas. That's due to the rivet squeezer's available leverage. FWIW, these were inspired by the shape of the aircraft and RV industry rivet squeezers. IMO , bigger rivets are best served by a ...

There is no progressive compression pressure in the recuperator because all four springs are made with the same compression strength. In other words, they function as one large long spring. All four springs are interchangable. The reason for using four springs may be related to production. Perhaps ...

I read a bit more on compression spring design. It would seem that the four individual springs are weaker than one long spring. The fact that the ends of the coils are not a “full†coil means that they compress faster than the rest. So the first part of the spring’s travel (about 20%) is less ...
