Re: DRUM BOX FOR 08/15 IN WOOD ??

I meant no insult or insinuation against you so please take no offense. I also realize that much of the information out there in books is incomplete at best and incorrect in many cases so it is well within the realm of reason that your box is perfectly correct, original and made by a factory somewhe...

Re: m60 links in a mg42?

Most of the chicks I know prefer the standard belts over the links. Some of them will even load magazines for subguns they shoot but none will load belts or links. You can' t win them all. Cost per use is questionable in either case. M60 links direct cost is low but they tend to be damaged easily so...

The problem with M60 links in an unmodified MG42 feed tray is that they tend to tip, twist and jam the exit of the feedtray. The MG3 feedtray has a guide on the exit side that keeps the links from moving around in a manner that jams things. It is possible to modify an MG42 feedtray to do the same th...

Re: DRUM BOX FOR 08/15 IN WOOD ??

The Germans had a number of guns which used the 100rd assault drums that were seen most commonly on the the MG 08/15. Brackets were fitted to the MG 08, MG 08/18, LMG 15 N/a, Dreyse M1918 and at least one parabellum I've seen. Some (most) of these guns are fairly obscure and seldom pictured anywhere...

Re: Question on how to transfer and ship NFA firearms

Here are some basic rules for transfers... It doesn't matter where it comes from or who its transferring to, if it comes from out of state, in state or from your sisters boyfriend....it will transfer with tax due if it comes from someone who does not have a dealers FFL and pay the special occupation...

Re: help with a belt

Artie, I've seen a number of different types that use pins but a picture would nail down exactly which belt you are talking about. There were types done for the MG17 / MG81, the interwar MG08 and 08/15 and so on. There were also belts done by other countries that resemble the MG34/42 belts.... You m...

sulfur mixed with water doesn't make sufuric acid.....

and when mixed with oil it improves the lubricants ability to lubricate. Look at the engine and gearbox in your car or any older car. The sulfur prevented a lot of wear because it was mixed with the oil. Water vapor also built up in these parts but didn't mix with the sulfur in the oil. You may find...

Flowers of sulfur is basically pure sulfur powder.....

it was originally collected from various places as it crystallized in a form which looked like a flower with petals hence the name. This material was then dropped into a mortar and ground with a pestle to a fine powder. In WWII and possibly before it was found that sulfur added to the oil made it wo...

Do a search for the SdKfz251 which is the halftrack....SdKfz

or 232 which are the scout car and 6 (or 8) wheeler. I've seen pictures of that shield on all 3 of those vehicles. The 231 and 232 used them as a standard for the MG34 and MG42 I believe. The halftrack did not use them normally if I recall.

The heavy bolt buffer......

has straight smooth sides unlike the standard buffer which is a flat wound spring. The heavy buffer absorbs the energy from the bolt and the light buffer returns it to the bolt which increases the rate. I don't know where you can find a heavy buffer as there were much fewer of them imported as compa...

use the standard bolt and buffer with the .308 booster.....

that will keep the rate about the same as the 8mm with the 8mm booster. The 3 different bolt weights are the standard WWII type bolt which I believe the M52 uses too, the later MG3 type bolt with the sprin loaded belt feed stud and the heavy Piettro Beretta bolt. There is another type that you don't...

The very early guns were numbered like the MG34....

with the last 2 numbers on all major components like the barrel, bolt, topcover, bipod, gripframe, recuperator tube, buffer, and butt. It didn't last long though. I've seen guns from later in 43 that had numbers only on the receiver and the barrel. After that the barrels were the only thing numbered...

As Railsplitter noted, they are not adjustable....

and the reason they won't push the rounds all the way into the belt is wear on the rollers, pins and slop in these parts. I've got a number of these that won't work for this reason. One of them was worked on and had the pushers welded up to a slightly longer length in an attempt to fix the problem. ...

The heavy buffers are easy to identify....

they look solid where the standard buffer looks like a flat wound spring which it is. The heavy buffers have a series of washers similar to the browning that absorb energy rather than storing it like a spring. There are some other buffers which are hydraulic and are new made and I think sales are ha...

heavy and light bolt info....

The heavy bolt, I mean the 950gram unit, really needs the special buffer intended for that bolt. Using the heavy bolt with the light buffer will hammer the rails pretty bad. I've replaced a number of rails due to exactly that combo. My theory of the problem based on the problems I've seen is as foll...

for $1250 and I had no can. Mine was tan and in pretty good condition. That one looks like a definate repaint as most have noted the screws are filled in, the color is wrong and the manufacturers marks are filled in as well. Re: Semi Auto PKM

There you go, answers from the builder. My comment on the US troops not having anything like the PKM is due to the very light weight of the PKM and its reliability. The M240 is a fantastic piece of machinery and very reliable but it weighs 27lb. Its great for vehicle use but the ground pounders are ...
