Re: MG 42 Build:Headspacing a New barrel?
ok so I just bought a tape wrench to screw the barrel into the barrel extension. Is it ok to just put the extension into my vice? I do not want to damage or bend my extension. I didn't know if there is a jig or something I should use like 2 2x4's to not tighten the barrel extension against the vice....

Re: Newbie with a mg53 kit from apex
apex has semi-auto bolts, with the cocking handle and bolt extension (brp parts) welded on already for $50.

Milling Bits Used for MG42 build?
Hi guys, Does anybody have a list of the necessary milling bits and milling accessories needed to complete an mg42 build? I did not want to waste money on bits I don't need and would rather just buy good quality individual bits and tooling, rather than buy cheap sets that break in two uses. thanks f...

Re: Information and pictures of a weapon
Were they the ones imported by IO? As far as I know some of these were impoted as pistols, then converted to sbrs. Do you have any more information on what you are looking for? I'm willing to help researching it. Sounds really cool, except that I don't think I would pay $5k for a semi-auto mp38, but...

Re: New mg42 Build, and where to start with it
ah ok understood, would using my flux core be ok to weld it in? I've been kind of wondering if using flux core for this build will be ok at all. I see how people do use their mig welders, but its typically with small wire (.023 or so). The minimum I can use with my harbor freight 90 amp is .030.

Ah ok so it seems 8mm headspace is 8mm headspace.
Excuse me for my ignorance but is the barrel flange on the barrel extension or barrel itself next to its collar?
thank you for your help

Re: New mg42 Build, and where to start with it
I'm sorry if I got the terminology wrong. So by barrel extension I meant the piece the barrel screws into. I bought a spare barrel extension ready to have the barrel screwed into, which is the link below http://mg34.com/product/mg-42m-53-barrel-extension-spare-parts/ By front barrel bushing I meant ...

Re: MG 42 Build:Headspacing a New barrel?
my barrel extension has a staked mark I assume from its previous barrel, should I use the same stake mark or make a new one. If I make a new one where do I make it?
is there a specific mg42 go and no go gauge? I was reading the headspace for mg42's is differnet than say a kar98k.
thanks

Re: New mg42 Build, and where to start with it
I see , well with my spare barrel extension I think I'm ok as far as that goes. Should I continue to dremel out the front barrel bushing? I'm using a sanding bit so I don't accidentally cut into the actual shroud.
Once the old barrel bushing is out, is it swaged in, welded in, or both?

I read on some post here how the extension shouldn't reach above 400 degrees, is that true?

Re: New mg42 Build, and where to start with it
that is a good idea, I actually bought a spare barrel extension. I tried cutting the barrel stub off at the collar with a hacksaw, it didn't work and ended up putting a small nick in the extension. So I just bought one for $30 with no barrel stub in it ready to go.

New mg42 Build, and where to start with it
Hello guys, so I have finally gotten time to post my mg42 parts kit and simple (yet complicated) question of where to start. I currently have the following: apex mg42 parts kit new 8mm mg42 barrel (from apex) apex semi-auto bolt used barrel extension (the original that came with the kit had such a s...

Re: MG 42 Build:Headspacing a New barrel?
Do you screw the barrel tight enough in by hand or are any tools specifically meant for it? are there particular gauges I should buy for headspacing the mg42, as in brand? I have one bolt and bolt head. I am doing a semi-build , so I don't think I'll need more than one barrel. I bought one of the se...

Re: MG 42 Build:Headspacing a New barrel?
So I have a barrel extension and new 8mm barrel from apex. I understand the barrel screws into the extension, is torqued down until headspace gauge fits and no-gauge does not I believe. How exactly is the barrel torqued into the extension, with a tape wrench and vise? I've never worked with screw in...
