Needed: Front end/ sight base photo

I need to correctly profile the top front end of an MG42 (not M53) receiver. I'm specifically looking for a quality, clear photo of the area immediately in front of the front sight, including the front sight base, from the top.

Thanks, if you can help!

Unless you're a rocket scientist (or master machinist) this will be a months project, not weeks. Be patient. Read everything in the Build section. Print out pics and pertinent data and put them in a binder. Buy John Baum's 918 book on the MG42. Watch the F/S section for good deals on the parts you'l...

I think Bil is right on the money. Here's my opinion, right or wrong: the Century SA42s won't make the market, or won't be in any volume, because they are too labor intensive to get working. If they do sell some, they probably won't work right either, so you have the same issues you do with a "compl...

Keep in mind you're using 60 year old parts...and in most cases, VERY used parts. And, these semi conversions are not perfect; this is a very complicated machine and you've gone and changed it from the original design.

Yep, Dan @ Angola has great prices. I think RTG has a greater selection. As far as the books, education is paramount. You need to know how this thing works, and what the parts are called. Buy these books from J. Baum: PDV918 and H.Dv.216/16. Once you have them you can play with your kit forever even...

According to Chief Nixon in a recent SAR article, ATF doesn't recognize "80%" it either is, or is not a firearm.

MG42 Messages Question

I see in my messages section there is a "sent" box and a "outbox". What is the difference?

Get the MG3 ground mount. It's well worth the money and will undoubtedly increase in value.

Several sources on 1919a4.com have adapters for the MG3 ground mount.

Get it from RTG (see above post)

The AA tripods are cool because they're actually made of metal. I wish they'd come up with a ground tripod though!

In a recent article in SAR, the BATFE chief goon stated there's no "80%" either it's a receiver or it isn't. Based on that one could sell a complete receiver with a simple wire block in front of the camming section. Of course, these morons change their minds faster than you can imagine. Just look at...

From what I understand, once Sarco filled the backorder they had about 200 left, and those were gone in a couple days.

I just figured out how to assemble the recuperator. You'll want: bore cleaning rod long enough to reach end of recuperator long needle nose pliers First, note that the first-in plunger & spring are shorter than the others. Second, be sure you know how to get a keeper in. Practice with just the keepe...

Any recommendations?

Hey New Guys!

This is the deal of the century! Yes, the Sarco kits cost $200, but wait till you try to build it! This has the bearing intact and is a relatively easy weld.

You should have priced it at $1400 here, it probably would have gone in a day.

How do you line up the front end though? I see a single support and it doesn't appear to go through a hole in the FH. The inside of the front end isn't flat, so a washer is going to skew it sideways. Looking for the best & easiest way to do this.

First, figure out which parts are missing. I don't mean the receiver, I mean all the little springs, pins, etc. Then, fit all that you can to see what doesn't fit or work. For example, the Dangola kit I got almost 2 yrs ago: - missing recuperator nut, the other one doesn't fit either screw. - barrel...
