Re: Machinegun Shoot 2008, Redwing MN

That video is fake. I mean, come on. We've all seen in TV and movies what happens when someone shoots a car: It blows up at least once, flips over and then catches on fire. And that's just when using a pistol.

Re: Post war Mg34 Recievers?

I think those piles of guns had all been burned and that is why they looked really oxidized.

Re: Post war Mg34 Recievers?

At the end of the war only BRNO was manufacturing MG34's. A lot of them ended up in Israel. The Commies also shipped them to insurgents all over.

Interesting that a 44 dated mg42 would have a slab handle. It really looks good.

Re: Restore Bluing

Maybe use a bluing pen? I think they sell them at Wal-Mart. They sort of look like a "Sharpie" pen but are used to touch up bluing.

Re: MG 42 in a film

Great segment in Saving Pvt Ryan with the MG42. If I remember correctly, in one shot of the gun, the sights are in the upright position and in the next shot, both front and rear sights are down. Story is that the MG42 used in the picture is Steven Speilburg's personal gun. Bill Steven Spielbergs pe...

Re: Are ddx-mfg MGZ40s less common or something?

Ryan, nice to see a mountain lion hasn't gotten you yet!! And nice collimator on your scope! Another mystery with the mgz40 sights involves the serial numbers. Some have four digit numbers, some have five digits and some have six digits. Come on now: if they really made sights into the six digits th...

Re: Are ddx-mfg MGZ40s less common or something?

That is a nice scope. I wish I could find more information on the manufacuturing history of these scopes. For example, I do not know if scopes were made in gray and tan at the same time, or if gray scopes were produced before the tan scopes. On the ddx scopes I have seen (and I have not seen many), ...

Re: Are ddx-mfg MGZ40s less common or something?

My only MGZ-40 is a cxn. Hey Ed, isn't it a bit strange to collect JUST the MGZ-40's but not the rest of the MG-42 setup? What can you do with them all by themselves? Spy on the neighbors ? Yes, I know I am not one of the "cool guys" with an MG42. I do have an MG34, and I guess the optics are inter...

Re: Are ddx-mfg MGZ40s less common or something?

There are at least six codes not in the Myrvang book: ddx, lww, lwy, btw, gug and dhq. I have all codes except ddx, lww and dhq. That does not mean any one is more rare than the other, it just means that all of them can be a little hard to find and when you do find one it is common for the asking pr...

Type style on german boxes, etc

Well, here's my stupid question of the day: what type style/font did the germans use to mark wooden boxes, etc?

Example: what style is this?

Re: MG 42 in a film

One of the crappy Death Wish moives, Death Wish III maybe, had a bunch of hooligans messing with the local old people. One of the old guys gets fed up and reaches into his closet, pulls out an mg42 with belt, goes out onto the fire escape and prepares to smoke the offending misguided youths. As if t...

Re: German anti-tank rifle,WWI

Where did you find a Panzerschreck 54? NICE ! You just have to know where to shop :D . Oh, and dumb luck also helps. A guy I know had it and put it on gunbroker for some high dollar price ($3500.) After it didn't sell I made a deal and bought it with the inert round that came from a museum from the...

Re: German anti-tank rifle,WWI

The S18-1000 is a fascinating rifle. Next time at a gun show find the book guy and look for the Propaganda Series book titles "German Anti-Tank Weapons:Panzerbuchse, Panzerfaust and Panzerschreck." There is a terrific picture in the book of a Soluthern in service with the German army in Russia. I ha...
