The bolt box dimensions for the 42 and 34 are different.

Since I have no idea how familiar you are with how the MG42 operates, forgive me if I waste a little space here. Pulling back on the cocking handle is supposed to pull back the locked together barrel and bolt. The recuperator holds the barrel forward with spring pressure, so pulling on the cocking h...

I'm surprised to hear Numrich sold out of barrels in 2 weeks.... I ordered 9 of them the night the news came out. I only got 7 of them, but they're nice. I figure they'll last me until I'm too old to shoot, and I expect that to be at least 40 years. I learned "Snooze, you lose" a long time ago with ...

I saw a tiger at the Aberdeen MD tank museum... it had 5 grooves in the armor from our shells bouncing off. It still didn't burn, blow up, or take a round internnally. My guess is it lost a track. There was no other damage on it serious enough to stop it. It was also a little wierd to see how thick ...

Well Tanker, I include postage in the price for all the manuals I sell, so buying them separately is the same cost as buying them one at a time (just in case you're getting antsy and need some reading). I've done the first proof reading of the MG15 manual. I let them sit for a few days, then do it a...

If anyone wants to swap a spring loaded bolt housing for one that isn't spring loaded, let me know. It doesn't make any difference to me whether mine is spring loaded or not, so if someone is in need, here I am.

I hadn't thought of that. The manuals are such a pain in the ass to do, and putting three manuals together for $60 would stil be a big bite at once for someone who wouldn't be sure the first one would be worth it. You guys are great with testamonials about the manuals I've translated, but new guys w...

Thanks guys. Yes, for the newbie with a parts kit, the PDV 918 would be the best start. The HDv. 216/6 gets more into the technical operation of the gun. Each of the others all offer some information not found in the others, but for starters those are the two best. Once you've fallen madly in love w...

Regardless of the merits of each justification of how and why something is or should be legal to build, if it isn't in writing from ATF, then it's all a matter of your opinion against theirs. I don't like those odds myself, considering ATFs track record for changing their determinations of what is O...

new movies

I put a couple new movies on my website ( http://www.GermanManuals.com ) on the Links page. One is a helicopter that catches a wheel on a safety railing and flips into the ocean, the other is thermal imaging of taking out some insurgents.... good stuff.

DARIVS ARCHITECTVS: "Curio and Relic machineguns are those that were registered prior (or during) 1968, and thus they are grandfathered in." Is that the way Minnesota defines a C and R machine gun? Because that's not the way the federal government defines it. For federal purposes, a C and R gun or m...

C and R means Curio and Relic. If a gun is 50 years old or older, ATF classifies it as a C and R which allows it to be sold across state lines to people who have a C and R Firearms License . It generally means that it is an original, wartime gun, not something made up in the 1970s when it was still ...

I'd love to find an MG42 Lafette manual... the only thing I've found is for the MG34, although the only difference is the gun mount itself. The mount for the MG34 is much more complicated, but everything else is the same, so the manual easily works for the MG42 mount. If anyone out there knows of an...

It says in the manuals to lightly oil the insides of the belt pockets. I've seen guys spray the loaded belts down with WD 40, but I can't reommend that. I've never needed to do it. The Germans even recommended dipping the belts in paraffin for lubrication. Also, shooting .308 in tight 8mm belts may ...

Some guy on here sells a manual that might be helpful in your assembly of the MG42 parts.... Can't remember who though..... oh wait. It's me. I would suggest PDV 918 on my website for exploded views of all the parts.
