Re: first test fire today and....

The firing pin should not protrude from the bolt face when the firing pin is fully rearward. If it does, that's a good place to start for fixing things. Excess protrusion causes blown primers, so you need to check the protrusion. Protrusion should be between 1.35 and 1.65 mm.

Re: WTB Spade Grips for the YUGO M53 not the MG42

A set of spade grips for the M53 would need a Yugo buttstock cup. If you have one of those, you might be able to get Charlie Jones from Avon, OH to put one together for you. He has been so busy with his real job that he shut down his website. I know he has several sets made with MG42 cups. I believe...

Re: Replacing MG34 bolt rollers

There's actually a tool made for doing that, but since you don't have one, look at the pictures of one below and see how it's done:

Re: Bolt will not fit

The bolt is factory, so it is obviously within spec. The problem is how the rails fit in the receiver. Maybe some built up weld is holding the rails closer together. That's up to you to determine, as we can't see the receiver. It may require slightly flattening the receiver dimples. Making the bolt ...

Anyone who finishes the gun needs a manufacturer's license, since they would be making it for you and not themselves.

Tread carefully.

The Norwegian Lafette wrench I had for sale was not picked up at Knob Creek. It is still for sale at $75, US first class postage is included.

I talked with a lot of people with accents. I don't remember and Aussies or Kiwis or New Zealanders this time, but I know I've spoken with many in the past. An accent I enjoy is South Africa. Very friendly guys.

Re: Maylaisian 7.62 NATO case seperation in MG42

Case separations like that occur because the MG42 shoots so fast, that the case doesn't have time to shrink back down after firing before it is yanked out of the chamber. It'll work fine in other guns because there is more of delay in extraction, so the case, which expands against the chamber of the...

Re: New Member from Belgium :)

I got back from there Sunday night. They shoot twice a year, in April and October. There is also a gun show, and machine gun rentals are available so that people who do not own a machine gun can shoot. I talked with a few Germans, Canadians, and Norwegians there this time. Sometimes, a bus load of J...

Re: New Member from Belgium :)

I keep everything lightly oiled, and put a drop or two on the trigger assembly. A light layer of grease on the rails is good for a gun being shot, but if it is just for display, light oil would be fine. The MG42 does not rust easily, so there is not much to be done for maintenance of a gun that is n...

Re: Hammer follow

Sounds like your recuperator is just fine. You want the most amount possible of recoil spring to be in the gun without binding when the bolt is fully rearward. And remember that the bolt actually compresses the buffer spring a bit too, so there has to be a little extra room left over when the rear o...

Re: Hammer follow

Have you tried a different recoil spring? Considering that most semi guns have barely enough recoil force to operate, yours isn't the worst problem to have. You can always go with a slightly oversized nozzle.

Re: Interchangeability

yes, the MG42, M53, and MG3 bolts are all the same, (other than the difference in the type of extractor, spring, and retainer, and that the MG3 bolt has a spring loaded feed lever pin). They take the same buffer, but the M53 buffer also requires an M53 stock (German and Yugo stocks are not identical...

I deleted the previously existing donation link. First off, I know that some of the other gun boards have links for donations, and/or send out emails begging for donations. I won't do either. The software to run this board is free, and the yearly fee for the MG42.US name registration and website ser...
