Re: MG42 Value

The MU DFB that recently sold looked like a Dangola kit. Tracking sales, it appears that a "typical" MG42 kit runs about $2500-$2600. Given that a kit w/o any of the receiver aft of the trunnion recently sold for $2600, and the recent MU DFB went to $2500 before the third party quit bidding, it is p...

Phosphate is the way to go. I did likewise with two but I blued them and they look worse than when I got them.

Re: M53 REceiver?

German front ends w/ uncut bearing sell for $800 - $1000. Yugo w/ cut bearing about $150, maybe $180. Uncut bearing probably double that. Complete German kits $2600+ and going up fast. Complete Yugo $1200-$1800, though I doubt we'll see any more at $1200. There is a one saw cut Yugo on GB for $2600....

Re: M53 REceiver?

All the value is in the rear. 42 Rocker is about right. Complete kits went for $1200 to $1800 a few months ago depending on condition and pics. Now all the retailers are sold out. So value will go up.

Re: Please help me find a legit builder

Finding original rear sections for either MG42 or M53 is difficult and expensive. Better to buy a complete kit. As a purist I’d hate to see incorrect rear and front sections mated. Plus many people bought the MG3 sections to put with 42 and 53 fronts which is both like mixing Chevy and Ford parts an...

Re: IMA German MG42 rear reciever pieces

Five years ago I sold two at $500 each. That was a mistake. There are German kits without the rear receiver that would best be built with a real receiver. German shrouds sell for about $800. Complete with receiver sections the price is doubled.

You’re not going to find unissued doors or most other parts. There is a door on GB.

No dimples you can drill them yourself for cosmetics.

Use the BRP two piece shell. I think RTG has them in stock. Hope you can weld and mill.

Re: Mg34 Wartime Finish

More on the mg42 finish. Wrong thread but it may still reflect on the mg34. Here is a mg42 gustloff DFB MU at Julia auction they say has factory phosphates receiver and blued parts. If correct this indicates some wartime mg42 were phosphate not blued. https://www.rockislandauction.com/detail/58/570/...

Re: Please help me find a legit builder

If I understand correctly, you don't have the rear of the receiver? Rear receiver shells don't just get "welded on". They have to be properly sized/ trimmed, welded in a manner that acommodates weld shrinkage, and then machined. That's a lot of work. Even BRP's full receiver, which requires an FFL, ...

Re: Please help me find a legit builder

The short answer is Jared Lewman https://lewmanarmsmanufacturing.com/ The long answer: I seriously doubt all that needs to be done is one weld and rails. Is it deslagged? Is the recuperator installed? Properly? Assuming that the rear receiver was several sections and rewelded, was it done right? Sem...

Re: MG42 Value

Here's the MU DFB dummy to watch: https://www.gunbroker.com/Item/796658152 As of right now over $1000 with six days to go. What do you think? $2500? $3000? more? I'll bet it tops $2500. Ironic, as when people were paying $800 for these things 12 years ago I'd laugh at them. I remember Gordy K throwi...
