Well, if Allegheny Arsenal's straps are too far from the original to bother modifying back to original, then what are the alternatives? Anyone have any good pictures of originals and some dimensions? Perhaps I can manufacture some in my armour shop...

THanks guys (especially Tom). I'll call alegheney arsenal and see if they have anything. Question: is the hardware on yours a little on the thin side as far as strength?

WTB Lafette 42 Carry Straps

Hiya guys... Just bought a lafette 42, but the seller didn't have the carrying straps (though they'd come with, but oh well.) I'm looking for a complete step of straps in excellent condition, perhaps even repsorduction ones. Anyone got a set available for sale? After I get the lafette 42 and straps,...

I own one, and I practically fell into it, buying it as a result of a local gun collector passing away. They are rare, but most often surface for sale on the internet at Armament Services International. Typically you usually find one or two of these available for sale at any one time, though there a...

The Gurtfüller is not an absolute necessity, but if you load and shoot a lot of belts like I do, it makes belt loading a LOT easier and much faster. I used a postwar Gurtfüller with a reqelded and expanded tray to allow loading of 8mm rounds instead of .308.

Pick up a spare matching set of camming pieces if you plan on shooting your MG-42 a lot. The front edges of the cams tend to get chipped after lots of use. This is a tough part to find these days.

This early handle was not very popular indeed. It lacks the leverage of the rolled sheetmetal handle's hook to pry the bolt and barrel back far enough for the bolt to unlock. It's quite tough to pull the bolt/barrel back with, but not beyond that of being an annoyance. You need to apply a very firm ...

I have one of the stocks made by Mike at mgstocks.com. His website appears to be down at the moment. Mike made the stock from walnut and it is PERFECT, even with a waffenamt on the left side. It is used on my C&R MG-42 to allow the original stock to not suffer the dings and abuse from handling and w...

The ends of the rivet are almost hemi-spherical. To form the second rivet head after inserting it through the camming pieces, and make it look ORIGINAL, heat the end of the shank to cherry red with a oxy-acetylene torch, support the opposit end of the rivet, and form the head using a ball peen hamme...

I used to build hundred of detailed models when I was younger, mostly WWII ships, tanks and vehicles, but also ships from the age of sail with all the tiny rigging and such. My favorite were WWII German tanks, assault guns, and tankhunters.

Home made simplified receiver? Answer: extremely unlikely. There are name features stamped into the receiver that are necessary for holding the alignment of the internal parts in place, and features like dimples and curves that are important to the overall strength and flex-resistance of the machine...

This is not surprising to me since I have noticed a trend for the BATFE to attempt to stem the construction of rifles made from imported decommissioned parts kits flowing into the country. Implementation of 922r is the start of the trend. The production of semi-auto AK-47's from Bulgarian military A...

The two bolts I received were ordered as-is and are in good condition, both marke dfb with lots of waffenamts also. One of them was blued with anough of the bluing taken off the worn spots to show it was well-used, the other has typical wear. Both worth the $49.00 spent. I do take issue with IO send...
