Re: gfv-64 East German belt loader.

There were a pretty good number of them here in the states. Ohio Ord imported a bunch of them and I think Tennessee gun did too. From what I understand there aren't any more in east germany since they scrapped all that stuff or sold it to us silly yanks. I sold my last one a few years back and it wa...

Re: Need belt for MG08/15

Look for vickers belts, they are out there. You'll likely have to post a want to buy ad on one of the machinegun boardsl like Sturmgewehr.com , Subguns.com, or gunboards.com. The vickers belts were originally made for .303 but 8mm will work in them too. You need to stretch the belts a bit by loading...

Re: Single Saw Cut 1944 MG42

The "winning" bidder is the only bidder. All the bids are his and it looks like he started at the bottom and kept going til he hit the reserve. Maybe its a new way to run guns. Give a chop and sell them.....

Re: Single Saw Cut 1944 MG42

legally speaking they used to allow 2 saw cuts if the center section was destroyed or removed. The parts displayed in the auction would be considered an MG by ATF if they were asked. That could be put together in a very short time by an inexperienced guy with a harbor freight welder. I'm surprised i...

Re: Trommelfuller on ebay Germany

I've seen one of these machines in the US and its quite a piece. I don't know what the makers mark was on the one I saw as I wasn't really looking for that. On the other hand the term Europa has been around for a long time. It could easily be a small company who made prototypes of test pieces. I tru...

Re: Notes on the 08 German Maxim Gun

Interesting book, notice the date April 1917, the US "officially" entered the Great War on April 6, 1917 (Good Friday that year) yet within that month we have a book out for the military describing our new enemy's machine gun. Goes along with the hundreds of scholarly articles showing president Wil...

Re: 80% Philadelphia Ordnance Receiver

The whole point of the dummy receiver is to keep ATF happy. Because of that none of the parts will fit inside and the grip fits on but won't function in any way. Its for appearance not use so keep that in mind. For that reason your aluminum receiver is probably just as good. You can buy paint that s...

Re: Odd belt w/ starter

That starter tab looks a lot like a post war unit. Pretty easy to swap out any of the links or parts since the springs that hold the parts together are interchangeable pretty much throughout 34 to MG3 production.

Re: MG42/59 missing part?

The MG3 type booster is a 2 piece assembly rather than the 3 piece of the MG42. Its fine and will work great. It was a way of simplifying the booster assembly. So if you have the MG3 type booster/flash hider you're fine. If you have the MG42 style flash hider than you'll be needing the booster cone ...

Re: odd belt loader

It is as John noted a fairly common loader from the early postwar era. They were basically a sheet metal copy of the ZB37 loader with a spring loaded operating plunger rather than a crank. Looks to me like the eagle is a Bundeswehr or austrian eagle though if memory serves the loaders were made in Y...

Re: Erb MG08 Price Check?

With the large number of original C&R guns available you will find that one built and registered by charlie erb will bring quite a bit less. I've seen some very nice original guns sell in the $15-18K range recently with sled mounts. The sled is a big part of the value as well with decent sleds selli...

Why would a group of soldiers on the Somme be using a blank adapter for pictures? This is probably a posed shot from training or something....who knows.

Re: MG42/59 Identification

could be an MG1. All the MG42/59's I've seen are marked as such. The muzzle booster is not a good way to ID anything since the boosters are interchangeable between the 42 and all later variants. One possibility is the recuperator however. Look at the recuperator where it extends rearward in the rece...

Re: MG 08 color

Since many were painted by individual groups of soldiers using material found on hand its very hard to say what colors were used. After looking at quite a few original guns in museums and in collections I've not yet seen any with matching colors. Some used a variety of flat green which varied from l...

Re: Mg.15 armourers training saddle drum

Since the front of the drum is Marked Ub I'd say its a training piece. Uebungs means training or practice. That would put it out of the round counter realm for sure. I could see where it could be part of a cutaway setup and there is no way to tell if the painted markings are original or something ad...

Re: Wheeled MG08 Sled mount

I have to say, I like the aesthetics of both mounts but I do not like them blended notwithstanding the practical application of the wheels. I never had the privilege to haul a sled mount over no man's land, but it sure is a nice piece of equipment as the Fatherland made it, no wheels. Originally th...

Re: tula 308 problems.

Since the gun was designed around steel cases and plated steel bullets you won't have any issues there. The problem is most likely that the cases are not made the same thickness in the case head area as other stuff you're shooting. French 8mm from the postwar era had the same issues....it ripped off...

It is a DISA made tripod for the MG3 as you noted and depending once again on where you're trying to buy or sell the price varies considerably. They're still available here in the states for about $400. I have no idea how much where you are...Sweden isn't it? I saw some for sale in England at the Wa...
